The "Sony Games" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
I am referring to these very forum. In the recent months it became flooded with pointless spam and one word replies. Things totally got outof hand in the past 4 weeks or so. All decent topics were flushed down the list and they were replaced by things like "Can you wait for MGS2?". Maybe some of you regard these forums as a place to chat liek you would chat with your mates in school. Some use text language, things like brb gr8 and wot? Why that laziness?
I have been especially concerned with the fact that people who spend long times writing their topics simply do not get the credit they deserve. This is due to the relative lack of feedback from many of you. Once a person sees a long post, they think to themselves-"Nah I cant be bothered to read all that" abd start spamming.
Some of us even think that every long post is a GAD attempt and therefore does not reflect on the writer's feelings and emotions.
As Pro Evo said in the Longest Thread, many of people who are writing long, worth-a-read topics cannot be credited for anything just because seconds after a post is written it is beaten by hordes of MGS2 and GTA3 posts.
I do not want to be a big-head but to be honest in the last few weeks this forum only had 3-4 people post good posts that were actually interesting to read-Pro Evo, SSX Pro, Wookiee Monster and me. Now I am not trying to say my or anyone elses posts are sheer class, but I dont think anyone can argue that there has been hardly no people who posted long thought-provoking posts.
So could we just stop this spam and try and get this forum back ot its feet. AFter all this is one of the most-visited places on SR...And what kind of example are we setting here???
Anyway, I have spoken.....
Now I am holding my head high and saying that I didnt in no way contribute to this forum by that little copying experiment, but I consider myself being one of the oldies on this forums and I do not want to see it going downhill.
This spam is not good. I heard that some of the people on FOg including Goatboy had said that they are getting fed upand bored with teh forums, I can clearly remember Rasta leaving because the forums were flooded with spam..So I am hoping we can resolve this soon..I have to go Parents Evening now buty Ill be on later....
Which is why I put my suggestions forward to the staff, as only they can do what's needed to help sort the forums out, in my view.
No matter how many votes you have, you'll still have the same problem. You're in fact adding to it by starting a vote thread.
I feel that 2 Sony forums won't help matters.
There's already a forum for Chat, why do you need another one?
You can only do this by example. You have to stop posting chat in here, and only post decent stuff. Otherwise newbies will see you posting chat, and they'll see you telling them not to post chat, and they'll wonder why there's one rule for them, and one for you.
BTW "You" wasn't directed at anyone specifically, just the users of this forum generally...
FOOL! Where are your ideas and it is worth starting off
> somewhere, FOOL!
Not being rude, but you should have read the whole of the topic before starting this argument with YH. I mean it was only yesterday that someone mentioned YH's post in the customer service forum.
Oh and YH, you asked me why you should help us. You are right, there is no set reason why you should help us its just someof us thought having a Notable helping us out may improve our chances in getting what we want. And whereas you may not care about the PS2 forum, surely you realise that this affects the whole SR disccusion forums...If we get rid of spam in one, we will ultimately do it everywhere on the forum
Plus there is a huge possibilty of people simply not bothering to look down the page, and posting same-ish topics concerning the boss fights on a certain game...I mean these people should undesraynd that SR havnt got the Cheats and Hints section there for nothing...
I still like Pro Evo's idea about splitting the forum into two halves just like the FOG forum. Whereas it may prove inpractical at times, I still think it would prevent a lot of spam fromhappening.
Alternatively SR could restrict newbies to post a limited number of topics a day with a minimum number of words being set to 100 or so. I mean all them topics including one-line post in it can get pretty annoying
My ideas are in the Customer Service/Site Bugs forum.
Would like to take a look, perhaps?
> Perhaps you lot should stop complaining like a bunch of
> old women, and write some decent discussion starting threads, eh?
There have been a few very good threads here lately, but they've buckled and disappeared under the sheer weight of useless spam topics.
One in particular, by neilc, was fantastic and warranted a lot of discussion. It got no replies, so I popped it and said something along the lines of 'I'm disgusted no-one has replied to this'. Then a few regulars responded with decent comments, before it once again sank without trace.
I'm not saying it's easy to think up great topics - I mean, I can't remember the last time I wrote what I consider to be a serious and interesting post - but it seems to have become solely the Notables and Regulars who are responsible for posting decent, non-spam topics. And that's not right.
I don't mean to offend anyone, but very, very few Newbie topics constitute anything other than spam these days, and that in itself make me think, "why bother? it'll only get spammed, or buried under spam" - it really drains the will to post anything worthwhile, even if I do manage to think of such a topic.
I don't need other PS2 owners telling me "y i fink ps2 iz betta dan xbox", and I don't need Xbox owners or Ninty's telling me "ps2 sux u shd get a GAMECUBE". I want reasonable discussion with valid points to talk about.
Can I make some suggestions?
1. If you consider a topic to be spam, DON'T add to the thread saying "stop spamming" - it only encourages them. Just leave it and let it drop off the front page.
2. If someone says "Xbox/Gamecube is better than PS2", don't bother replying *unless* it is a well-presented opinion/argument. It's probably just some gimp trying to get you to rise to the bait. Simply don't, and they'll get fed up.
3. If someone posts in sms txt tlk - as much as I hate it - don't immediately slam them for it. Just respond to any valid points they make, and at the end of your post, say something like "if you'd like to talk about it some more, please reply using proper english". Otherwise it'll just degenerate into more arguments and spam.
> Thing is, no one will read that in here, and if they do, how will you get them
> to actually do it?
We, as the forum, can't do anything. We can only try to stick by whatever rules are made ourselves, and that way, if any poster starts going really against them we'll be justified in maoning at them. I know on spelling that mistakes are easy to make, I do many unintentionally, but we can at least all try.
Fool.
