Now I really didnt want to touch this subject again, but seriously this is becoming a joke.

I am referring to these very forum. In the recent months it became flooded with pointless spam and one word replies. Things totally got outof hand in the past 4 weeks or so. All decent topics were flushed down the list and they were replaced by things like "Can you wait for MGS2?". Maybe some of you regard these forums as a place to chat liek you would chat with your mates in school. Some use text language, things like brb gr8 and wot? Why that laziness?

I have been especially concerned with the fact that people who spend long times writing their topics simply do not get the credit they deserve. This is due to the relative lack of feedback from many of you. Once a person sees a long post, they think to themselves-"Nah I cant be bothered to read all that" abd start spamming.

Some of us even think that every long post is a GAD attempt and therefore does not reflect on the writer's feelings and emotions.

As Pro Evo said in the Longest Thread, many of people who are writing long, worth-a-read topics cannot be credited for anything just because seconds after a post is written it is beaten by hordes of MGS2 and GTA3 posts.

I do not want to be a big-head but to be honest in the last few weeks this forum only had 3-4 people post good posts that were actually interesting to read-Pro Evo, SSX Pro, Wookiee Monster and me. Now I am not trying to say my or anyone elses posts are sheer class, but I dont think anyone can argue that there has been hardly no people who posted long thought-provoking posts.

So could we just stop this spam and try and get this forum back ot its feet. AFter all this is one of the most-visited places on SR...And what kind of example are we setting here???

Anyway, I have spoken.....

Well lets give this one last try......

Go look at the Xbox forum, go on, then come back here. Awfully nice in there isn't it ? You know, its all ordered and theres people actually chatting about games and new add ons, and how not to destroy the Xbox forum. In summary; that forum is everything this isn't.

In other words Topics like "tekken tag tournament" with the stunning two words "tekken fans"..... I've thought more about this as well, and it comes down to this one, rather depressing, thought.

Unless the spam stops anyone who wants to post a topic or join in a topic is going to go anywhere BUT this forum. Give it a couple more months of this and Pokemon will have more worth reading topics than here. Any set of rules that anyone tries to impose is useless as they cannot be enforced, even if someone is banned by Special Reserve they just reregister and continue under a new name. All of us that actually care about this are wasting our breath and time tryingto convince a majority to stop. They don't care. The best thing we can do is take up residence in FOG, or even in any forum, start our own PS2 topic and chat in there until the spammers get fed up. I, immaturely, suggest we start one in Xbox or Sega and sit it out, and if anyone has anything of massive note, put it in FOG.

It's simple isn't it.

If it ADDS to the forum in anyway, ie funny, interesting, helpful etc, then that's fine.

If DOESN'T add to the forum, ie replies which are just "I agree" etc, then you should frown upon them.

Just thinking about it has brought to me a problem with what is being asked. We are all wanting the place to be improved by the cut down of spam, which is seen as short posts with nothing much in them by most people on here. But does this mean that any short post is going to be seen as spam? As this could have some bad effects too, i mean we would loose some of the funny stuff on this site, there are often people in here that write witty comments and stuff.

So with all this talk, if someone should come up with a short comment which is funny, or a short reply to a topic, are they going to be hurled abuse for spamming.

So any rules that are going to be attempted at making must be specific so not to cause any real confusion.

I agree with Triple H and Your Honour, a "vote for this now" post is not really a solution. Those rules were just ideas of what I thought would be suitable examples of how the forum could, slowly be made better. Your Honour's post in SR Customer Service has led to Life and sport getting (later this week) seperate forums. But this is to encourage more posts. I like the Life topics, I've started a few myself, and I try to make them interesting, I might not always succeed on that but I try !

The problem here is too many, and ill thought out ones. We've now got a Tomb Raider Next Gen one, and a POW one, but they are just one liners ! Nothing about the game, what a person thinks, features, how it could do well/fail, just "look at this game ace post your stuff". Splitting into Chat/Prime like FOG isjust going to double the amount of spam, and, with respect to Your Honour, we ( the rest of the forum) cannot expect the notable to do everything. They probably want to actually do their own posts and responses, not sort out the mess. Nor can we expect SR to implement ways of moderating the forum and everything that entails. They give free games and DVDs away and provide the forums and answer our question in Customer Service - they hav enough to do. In a way, we are the problem so we need to sort it out, without making the problem worse ! (As my rules suggestion seems to have done....:( )

i agree with what you say about chat in a topic forum! In all the forums i have read people post non-sense when that should be put the thread with 22,000 + replys because they can talk non-sense without causing any problems! People also YH take the mick out of other peoples IDEAS! It was only an idea and it didn't need a rude dissaproval just good and bad points about it, i think people should stop bad mouthing forums which is spamming! I do not spam even though people say i do, they are just ideas that people can not see through and do not take time to read which is rude and very annoying.

I don't think the PS forum has been that good for the best part of the year. That's why I headed over to some of the other forums. More interesting posts, more humour (when appropriate) and more variety. The problem isn't the lack of good stuff here, it's the abundance of less than good stuff. I've just been away for the best part of two weeks, and I've just had a scan through the posts. A lot are MGS2 related, which is fair enough. And GTA3 is still getting a fair shout on here. But there hasn't been an awful lot else. I'm not saying all posts should be thought/discussion provoking (though I've just read a couple of good ones on here). But it does get a bit sad when you start thinking 'Why the hell did I just waste some of my time reading that?'.

It's noticeable that the PS forum is almost becoming a kindergarten for new 'good' posters. When I say that, I don't mean the new posters are infantile, but that quite a lot of the non spamming posters find more interesting stuff elsewhere on SR, and partially 'leave' the PS forum. I'm not mentioning any names, but there are a few decent posters who were regulars on here, but hardly post anymore - yet post frequently elsewhere. I can't say I'm surprised though.

But on the flipside, it is always entertaining ripping the urine out of the occasional moronic post :-).

Are you really trying to tell me that this:

"All those in favour of sorting out this forum and stop all the petty topics and keep one topic per game then vote now! Just say yes!"

Isn't spam?

What's the point in it?

Just because people reply, doesn't mean they're going to do it. Just because people don't reply doesn't mean the won't do it.

If you want to sort this forum out, why not make a thread called "Can all newbies read please?" Get someone like Wookiee to do it as everyone in here repects him.

In the first post, put all the things you've spread out in this thread.

Then, you have to make sure that you follow those rules too, otherwise the newbies will think there's one rule for them and one for the regulars.
