We don't know, but the big cheese's in the gaming industry do and this includes Microsoft. Microsoft have been told by Rare or just have suspecions of Nintendo's marketing plans and Microsoft stated that they are very cunning and that they have something incredible up the sleeves.
Rumours surrounding online play through the newley announced GBA player add on to the Gamecube could well be it. Online GBA games? Addictive and fun games that require very little bandwidth etc... or nintendo maintance? It could be terrifyingly possible and may kill X-box off in Japan that hopes X-box Live could help increase dwindeling sales in the land of the rising sun.
Thought you aught to know.

Well you don't have to, but in a number of games, particularly say a squad based game. Victory will always goto the ones who can communicate with eachother rather than do their own thing and attempt to chat with a keyboard.
People in here have laughed off Dringo's post whereas if I were to do a similar effort in the Ninty forum, I'd be surprised to end up with anything but swearing and abusive comments.
> How do you talk to your opponents without a headset though ?
Why do you need to? PC gamers have been managing without it for years.
For all we know, Nintendo could just wipe the floor with MS' online plans, or Sony could come up trumps. Whatever happens, offline gaming remains and always will be the biggest market.

It's also unfair to say that you need to buy thinigs separate at the moment, because no packages have been announced. The adapter may yet come with a subscription, and there has been rumour of it being supplied with an online game.
The only packages I've seen mentioned for the UK were in PSM2 (therefore not official), and were for an 'all-in-one' package of Broadband installation, hardware and subscription.
Using the US packages as guides *could* be misleading, as over there, broadband is more widely available *and* more widely taken up. Broadband in the UK still requires a driving force behind it, so the packages could be very different.
As I posted in the Sony forum recently, I'm still not personally interested in the online side of things. The only thing maintaining my interest on Sony's side is that they will be offering more than simply online games. That's what I'm keeping an eye on at the moment, though I don't currently foresee me taking up either package.
If you're interested in what PSM2 said and/or my response...

Yes, but on PS2, and eventually GC (maybe :P) you've got to by an adapter to begin with, then fork out for a headset - which should be hilarious if Nintendo use 56k - then get a game, then get a subscription.
MS - 2 demo games to play, 1 years sub, memory unit, headset - £39.99, sorted.

I understood that you *had* to buy the Communicator thing for Xbox to get online?
If so, it's a moot point. £40 on an add-on for GC/PS2, or £40 for the Xbox Communicator. "A rose by any other name" and all that.
You are clearly showing signs of ninty-fanboyism, why?
Xbox Live is set to be the best console-online service for a long time. Trust me its something big, very big.
Nintendo Online maybe great for you Nintys, but it won't be as well structured as XBL.
Pokemon Indigo: Online is'nt that apealing anymore.
