Or as it is otherwise known - The MLB Thread

So Yankees, as always busy around deadline day and were quite successful. Abreu and Lidle for a bunch of minor league prospects of which only Smith looks half decent. Don't know too much about Lidle to be honest but Abreu will give another strong bat and some experienced coverage for Sheffield while he's out injured (and more than likely replace him for next season) Also picked up Craig Wilson for Chacon to give us another strong bat. Had him in my MVP Baseball 2005 team as well actually. Might mean Andy Phillips doesn't get as much time as he should though which is a shame.

Red Sox and Jays did nothing and we kept hold of Cano, Melky and Phillips so a good trade deadline time all around for the Yanks

Detroit looking good for the World Series, taking the first 2 games at Oakland.

The Mets should beat the Cards, as the Cards pitching is poor and I think the Mets have more runs in them.

Apparently the plane that hit the building in NY today was owned and piloted by Cory Lidle of the New York Yankees.

He'd only had a pilots licence for 8 months :(

There isn't really anything wrong with his bat during the season. It's his October form that suffers and this season it was his defence. Sure, he struck out more and his averages were down a bit but he still scored 100 RBIs and hit home runs. Most teams would love a player that could do that.

They just need some pitching. They have too many pitchers that aren't good enough.

Perhaps a new manager can get the best out of the strugglers.

Yup Torre will probably go, maybe replaced by Giradi at Florida.

I doubt A-Rod will go, firstly whenever he slumps one year (if you can call that a slump) he comes back and has a monster year, plus i doubt anyone would be willing to pick up that contract.

If they go after the 4 i named then they won't need to trade anyone away, just need to get rid of some of the dead wood off the roster to trim the payroll

There was a bit of a discussion about it during the game on Five last night. The general consensus of opinion is that there will be a clear out.

Torre looks a dead cert out of the door I reckon. As much as Yankee fans (from what I gather) want A-Rod out, I think he might stay.

Randy Johnson will probably go or retire, apparently Mussina was thinking of retirement. They should really build a rotation around Wang.

I'd be surprised if they do trade away their prospects that have helped the Yankees this season. They may trade one to get some pitching.

Right so that's the baseball season over for me (and probably most of the television networks as well, who really cares about an A's and Mets final other than their fans?)

Now onto my second favourite part of baseball, the post-season trading drama.

Obviously the Yankees need pitching so i'm hoping the Yanks can pick up 2 of Zito, Marquis, Matsuzaka and Willis. Preferably Matz and Zito seeing as the other two have pitched in the NL and Willis hasn't looked as good as he was. Then we have Karstens and Rasner as the young guys ready to make the step up for the 5th spot hopefully. A rotation of Zito, Johnson, Matz, Wang and Karstens/Rasner (or maybe Moose if his option gets picked up) would be pretty damn good.

Sheff is probably gone, Wright and Pavano will hopefully be gone and get rid of their fat paychecks as well. I'd also like to see Farnsworth and Proctor get given the boot as well considering that they're useless. Also Torre can go for his bonehead decisions this playoffs.

Just as long as Steinbrenner doesn't go crazy and trades our top prospects like Wang, Hughes, Melky and Cano for old over-rated rubbish then it's fine

:-( Used up all our batting power smacking Tampa and Baltimore around. Now with 5 inning Wright on the mound we can kiss the world series goodbye, woeness

I'm annoyed about the rain delay at the Yankee game. I wanted to watch that last night.

Heh playoffs are going crazy this year, 2 inside the parkers in 2 days and a double tag out at home plate in the Mets game.
