So now it has sparked an interest, I know you need to have broadband and I have read that it costs £44.99, but is that £44.99 per month, year, or what?
Also, what other expenses are involved in this?
To cut a long post short, does anyone have any info that could be helpful?
Thanks.
But if Sony don't provide a competitive online service they are going to lose the console battle in the long term.
£44.99 one off payment for the Broadband adaptor
£25 per month for my ISP (Blueyonder) for 24 hours a day Broadband connection. (Note, I have this anyway so don't really consider it an extra cost on my PS2 gaming)
£7 per month (estimated) for each game that I wish to play online. For example, it is expected that if Final Fantasy XI ever gets released in Europe it will be £45 for the game which will probably include one month's online game time, after that I'll probably have to be an extra £7 per month to SquareSoft for access to their game server. Whether this £7 per month would allow me to also play other SquareSoft titles online is debatable, they may decide to charge £7 per month per game.
If I then wished to play SOCOM Navy Seals online (different publisher, different server), I'd probably have to fork out another £7 per month for each month that I wished to play. Then there's Gran Turismo 4 and all the other games I fancy playing online, so the costs are starting to mount up.
The only way around this that I can see is if all payments for online gaming are handled by Sony directly, so that gamers pay a set fee to Sony for online access (say £10 a month) so that they can play ANY game with online features anytime they want. That way Sony can distribute the payments to the publishers as they see fit based on which games are being played online the most or whatever other factor they choose.
Either that or, even better, the £44.99 for the PS2 Broadband Adaptor includes unlimited gametime online (Sega did this with the Dreamcast but I can't see it being econimically viable somehow).
I suppose we'll just have to wait for Sony Europe to announce the details, that's assuming that they're ever going to announce that the PS2 is going to be online in Europe in the first place.
How are they doing it in the US? How is XBox Live doing it? Anyone know?

Thankyou. That means so much to me.

OR YOU COULD TAKE YOUR CRAP ELSE WHERE!!!
Maybe X box live will be better, but to say that X box is superior to PS2 and Gamecube is to talk out of your as$. Unless you can back thids up i suggest you crawl into a small hole and think about what you've done.
(No offence - i haven't shouted at someone for ages. My point still stands, though)
