Hi, i need help on this topic. At the moment i have a 56k modem which gets very annoying. And the pings i have on some online games are terrible.
So i am considering getting a faster connection. So far i have seen The blue yonder cable one, which is avaliable in my area. And a few Adsl providers, but they seem to be more expensive. Can you suggest any good ones to me, because i dont know much on this subject, and wouldn't want to get one that was always slow, and had technical difficulties.
So which are my best options ?
Thanks , Dave

I have just ordered Blue Yonder broadband, and the earliest they can install it is the 27th of february, which isn't too bad, and its about 3 days after my birthday. Once i get it i will start playing some online games again, and not have to worry about being blocked on servers because my ping is too high, or get into a game, and then get a load of lag when i approach an enemy.
Any way thanks for the help, the half price installation is a good deal, and the price isn't too bad a month, i won't have to pay it all.

Well, I'll give BT another 24 hours before I call again, as it doesn't seem to have got any better.

Anyone else had their Line Gain increased with good results???

Well, I suppose so, because BT owns nearly all the lines in Britain. No matter who your telephone service provider is, I still think calling BT is the way to do it.

Yes, I have had this done, several times (6, to be precise). I can honestly say that although it's not necessarily faster, it is more stable (less blackouts and lost packets) and drops the connection much less. Highly recommended!

Has anyone had their "Line-Gain" increased, and has it improved their Net speed much??

I only ask as I've requested my "Line Gain" to be increased from BT, and they say it'll be done in 24 hours, so here's hoping for some improvment :o)

Just wanted to ask anyone else if they have done this, and if it's helped??

But thanks for the help, people in this forum seem very nice, and always try to help :)

Depends on ISP.

Pipex dont charge install fees. But you have to buy a modem (about £100, but if you look around or go second hand you could save abit), the modem, however, is then yours, unlike cable or ADSL when you rent the modem. That means you save on installation, you save on monthly fees and you can do whatever the hell you like with the modem(good for me as mine would have to be sprayed black and have the LEDs bl00ed..).

So, at the end of the day it depends on your situation, I'm going ot go wires only when I get the cash and when prices drop through Pipex, but another way may suit you better. At the end of the day, shop around and see what suits you best.

Now if you excuse me, I've just run 3 miles and desperatly need a bath.

Sounds like a great deal. Should be getting that then, unless something a lot better comes a long before the end of the month.
