So i am considering getting a faster connection. So far i have seen The blue yonder cable one, which is avaliable in my area. And a few Adsl providers, but they seem to be more expensive. Can you suggest any good ones to me, because i dont know much on this subject, and wouldn't want to get one that was always slow, and had technical difficulties.
So which are my best options ?
Thanks , Dave
But may I ask what 'AFAIK' means??
i'd still wait a bit, see if cable stabilises or ADSL drops in price.
It's half price if you suscribe b4 March 31st 2002!
that means £37.50 if u need a NIC card!
I'm getting a new PC first tho!
*DISCLAIMER:this may be total nonsense, but its what I believe to be true..
Normal phone lines are analogue, but the BT backbone is digital, so at the exchange their is a system which changes the digital signal to analogue. However, analogue can only use a small range of frequencies, which limits the bandwidth. Digital lines can use a much higher range of frequencies meaning larger bandwidth. ADSL simply removes the convertor at the exchange from your line, meaning a digital line straight to your house meaning lossa bandwidth. The disadvantages of this are that these digital lines can only be a certain length, and can only use high quality wires, so if your a long way away from the exchange, or your line is old or noisy, you cant get ADSL. Also, you need little things that plug into your phone. Dead easy, just plug it in and plug your phone into them.
If you go with a full package such as BT Openworld (boo, crap) they do all this for you and give you a modem as well. If you go for wires only like Pipex (yay! good! cheap!) then you have to do this yourself and buy your own modem.
Cable, however just uses the same cables as the TV comes down, so you need to be in an area with cable TV.
Simple eh?
