Example - "The PS2 is the best console of the next generation"
"No it isn't, it has the worst technology and some aspects are quite flawed."
"Yeah, but it has better games."
"Name some."
"SSX Tricky, Tony Hawks 3..."
"On GC and Xbox, on GC and Xbox..."
"But the GameCube and Xbox don't have good games"
"Halo, Smash Bros., Unreal Championship, Star Wars Rogue Leader..."
"But the PS2 is best."
Oh dear. It seems that people get into the wrong frame of mind. "PS2 is best, and nothing else is good". Definitely the wrong frame of mind. In the next-gen console race, Nintendo has got a great console which isn't held back by complicated architecture, high costs and obsessive anti-aliasing, and the Xbox is everything the PS2 is with that expensive Microsoft upgrade. Looks like this is one race that Sony can't win...
Or can they? Despite being less of a console than the others, Sony have such a massive fan base, and such a massive head start on the competition, that it may just end up to be like the previous console race.
The PlayStation was the technologically inferior console, yet by having such a massive base of cheap, fun games, became a massively popular hit. The N64 had much greater visuals, but because of that unjustified and biased view that Nintendo is 'just for kids', sold appallingly, coupled with the extreme prices. £65 for an N64 game anyone? Nah, everyone with both consoles will go for 2 PlayStation games anyday.
However, the Dreamcast was really good, and had all the qualities that made the PlayStation great. However, it arrived 4 years too late, and by this time Sony had established its multi-million fan base and had managed to dissuade all potential consumers away from Sega's really nice machine. Result? We all know it.
(PS. Now is the time to snap up a cheap Dreamcast. £70 for a DC and 2 games? Ridiculously cheap. Buy now!)
And it is entirely possible that the same will happen to Nintendo and Microsoft if they don't pull their act together. The PlayStation 2 was, and still is, a much, MUCH broadcasted console. Ask an adult in a shopping mall, and chances are that they have heard of the PS2, if not actually have one in their home. It is totally the opposite in the case of Nintendo and the GameCube. Some people know of the Xbox, but the GameCube? Nope.
A wise move by Nintendo was to advertise the GameCube on the back of the GameBoy Advance box. A+ for Nintendo, as the GBA is one of the fastest selling consoles ever. In fact, if it wasn't for the GameBoy, Pocket and Colour, Nintendo would probably be sharing its grave with Sega.
What is wrong with all of this, is that Sony don't deserve the staggering profits they make. They don't have any good in-house games, and put ridiculous prices on add-ons. Nintendo, while infamous for delays, make great games, with a passion, and always deliver something fun, innovative and truly great. Microsoft have got the heart for the console business. True, in essence they are only in it for the money, but even so, they have got all the backing needed to keep a hydroelectic dam stable, and trust me, thats a lot.
My last point to make, is that Sony does need to pull its act together. There are a very small amount of great games around on the PS2, no true must-haves, whereas the competition have must-have titles available from day 1. Many of the PS2's games are not PS2-only, and exclusive is the wrong word to describe it.
Exclusive = first, not, as many people are fooled by false advertising, 'only on that console'.
The PlayStation 2 is a great console for variety and price.
The GameCube is a great console for quality and price.
The Xbox is a great console for variety and quality.
From every angle, it is a win-win situation, yet many-a-person go for the PS2, merely because of advertisement. For the next-gen race, public awareness is everything. This isn't meant as a rip on the PS2, but it is just showing how Sony has played its cards right up until now, and how not to play the gaming game.
My advice to everyone wanting a new console:
Buy everything. That way you'll have a non-biased view, and can experience all great things gaming.
Remember: You only dis what you don't have. The DC is great, albeit with a massive anti-DC following.
Go on, its gaming, and gaming is great. Have fun with your next gen consoles, and do a little research into what you're buying. Don't fall under the rock-slide of Sony advertising, buy what YOU want, not what they do.
Have fun...

Another example.
Max Payne - PC, Xbox, GC too.
Metal Gear Solid 2 - One of the PS2's few good games
Jak and Daxter - Good while it lasts
WWF Smackdown 3 - Utter $hite
THPS3 - PC, Xbox, GC too
Silent Hill 2 - Not great, just good
Resident Evil Code Veronica X - poor DC conversion, if this is all you can muster for your great game list, then you must be getting desperate.
Headhunter - Puleez
Splashdown - DESPERATE AS YOU LIKE
Silent Scope 2 - No comment
Timesplitters - OK as a launch game, lamentable now.
Red Faction - Was OK, Geomod not utilised to full potential.
Quake III - PC, Xbox
Pro Evolution Soccer - ISS games are on other consoles too
Unreal Tournament - PC, Xbox
Tekken Tag Tournament - You call this good?!
GTA 3 - PC, Xbox, GC too
GT 3 - Another great PS2 game, as much as I hate to admit it.
Well done, your list contained a whole of 2 great games, a handful of OK games and then some games which are average. If this is what your list of 'great' games looks like, then you must be getting VERY desperate. The GameCube has games to better each and every one of these, as does the Xbox. If I was to list every mediocre GameCube and Xbox game, the list would go on for nearly forever.

Zelda better than MGS2??

Right then. Halo may just be a normal FPS. In that case, MGS is a normal Third Person Shooter. And Half Life is just another FPS. Halo is great. It has phenomenal AI, amazing graphics, loads of vehicles, and great gameplay elements. Enough of that though, since you're views can't be scuppered.

OK then. So we have determined that MGS2 is a good game. Woopdedoo.

Not likely. Can't you realise that the PS2 is bringing out some

-------------------
Fine, the PS2 is bringing out some superb games. But from that list you put, only 9 are great games, and of them only 5 are PS2-only. This is just a small list of 'good' games, yet you mention games like ZOE, which is mediocre at best. Racer 2 isn't out yet, neither is Castle Wolfenstein, or Starfighter 2. Other consoles have equally as good games to match these, then a whole other list of games to better them.
-------------------
And MGS2 is not a 'good' game. That is blatently obvious. And anyone

-------------------
I like cut scenes. They add layers to the game. They are what makes MGS2 good. And I am not saying that MGS was lame or $hite. I admit that it was a good game. I didn't like it. But it is exactly things like your opinion which I am talking about. You won't see that the PS2 isn't as good as other consoles. It is fine on its own, but it has a very lacklustre library of software. For every game like Devil May Cry, and Pro Evo, there are another 20 Exterminations and Fifas.
-------------------
Name a few 'must have' titles on the GC then. Go on.
-------------------
You know what, I'll go one step further and name a few must have titles on the GC and Xbox. However, since none are out yet, you would probably argue the toss with me, but I'll name, lets say, the must have titles which will be released within the first year of the console's release, since its sort of a year-ish since the PS2s release:
GC: 1st and 2nd Party: Smash Bros Melee, Pikmin, Wave Race: Blue Storm, Zelda (may not be released within first year though), Mario ("), Eternal Darkness, Luigi's Mansion (May not be 100% 'must-have'; on the same scale as things like Onimusha, 007 AUF and Starfighter), Mario Party 4 (come on, bound to be), Starfox Adventures, Kameo, Donkey Kong Racing, Mortal Kombat, Perfect Dark Zero, Mario Kart, Thornado
(+ more, they are just off the top of my head)
3rd Party: Virtua Striker 3, Rune, Spy Hunter (perhaps, or perhaps not if its like the PS2 version ie. OK but not great), Tony Hawk's 3, SSX Tricky, ISS 2002, Sonic Adventure 2, Super Monkey Ball, Galleon, Batman: Dark Tomorrow, Animal Forest +, Bloody Roar 3, Skies of Arcadia, Tetris Worlds, Dave Mirra 2, Spiderman, Crash Bandicoot, Rave, Klonoa 2, Metroid, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 2 (they'll all be out in a years time, I reckon), Crazy Taxi 2, Phantasy Star Online V2.
These games will probably all be out within the first year. I know that almost half of them wont be must have, but will still be on the 'good' level. Also, very few will be on the PS2, some will and are. Don't forget that there are also a wealth of GameBoy Advance games out there too that are 'must haves'
Xbox: OK, so these aren't really definitely in a year, but around that sort of time scale:
1st, 2nd and 3rd party: Halo, Dead or Alive 3, Project Gotham Racing, Oddworld: Munch's Odysee, Unreal Championship, Yager, BC, Swat: GST, Circus Maximus, Azurik: ROP, Star Wars: Obi-Wan, Buffy the vampire slayer, Bounty Hunter, Conflict: Desert Storm, Gun Valkyrie, The Thing, Spider Man, Jet Set Radio Future, Enclave, Gun Metal, Airforce Delta Storm, Dread Noughts, Blood Wake, Nightcaster, Jonny Drama, Medal of Honour: Allied Assault, Medal of Honour: Frontline, Hunter: The Reckoning, Falcone:ITM, Pirates:Legend of Black Kat, Batman, Max Payne, Genma Onimusha, Reign of Fire, Wrath, Robin Hood, Dead to Rights, Blood Omen 2, Brute Force, ultimate Blade of Darkness, Ghost Recon, Giants: CK, Duke Nukem Forever, Panzer Dragoon, AI, The Matrix, Galleon, SSX Tricky (PS2 + GC), Tony Hawk (PS2 + GC), an ISS game (announced, but not titled).
Now I'm estimating about 30% of these will be total crap, but I can count only 2 of these being on other consoles as well. About 10 are PC conversions, but PC gaming is a different sort of thing to console gaming.
In fact, the GameCube and Xbox launch titles look to be some of the best games ever. Compared to the PS2's launch games, they totally whoop A$$. You can't complain with these. Many of these games I mentioned will be very good, and a lot more will be great. You asked me to say games, I said games.
I am not saying that the PS2 is crap, I'm expressing my personal dislike of it. Do not say anything against my opinion; petty squabbling shan't change it. In fact, it just strengthens and justifies my opinion of PS2 owners. Don't get me wrong, it is a fine console, but I think Sony's strategy is very, very wrong.
Metal Gear Solid 2
Jak and Daxter
WWF Smackdown 3
THPS3
Silent Hill 2
Resident Evil Code Veronica X
Headhunter
Splashdown
Silent Scope 2
Timesplitters
Red Faction
Quake III
Pro Evolution Soccer
Unreal Tournament
Tekken Tag Tournament
GTA 3
GT 3
And there is more still, these are all top games. Now look me in the eyes and tell me the PS2 isnt the best console out. I will give X Box respect but GCN, please? I have seen things more respectable on the back of my shoe.
Smash Bros. Melee: Origional and great multiplayer
Rezident Evil: All of them remade for the GameCube with 70% new parts!
Perfect Dark Zero: Made by Rare= Kickass
Zelda Cubed: Made by Shigsy=must be great
Mario Sunshine: If this is anything like the Mario 64 it will be a hit!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
> See what I mean about PS2 fans? They come in here and try to deny my statement.
Well, what do you expect when your talking total crap?? What would you do if I came along during the GameCube's time of success (if it has one) and said, "oh, the GC has no must have games, all of them are on other platforms, if they keep relying on the GC they will get stabbed in the back blah blah blah."
I'm sure you'd just stand there and say nothing, wouldn't you??
And I can't believe you're dissing the PS2 when the GC doesn't come out for another 3 or so months, and currently the PS2 is massively successful, with it being sold out in shops everywhere.
> See what I mean about PS2 fans? They come in here and try to deny my statement.

Zelda better than MGS2?? Halo!? Halo is just a normal FPS. Nothing special. Zelda, in my opinion, was very dull. I have never liked an RPG in my life, and Zelda is one of them. And what do you mean officially?? That vote was taken BEFORE MGS2 even came out in Japan!

Not likely. Can't you realise that the PS2 is bringing out some superb games at the moment!? SSX Tricky, THPS3, MGS2, Pro Evo, Devil May Cry, Half Life, GTA3, Jak and Daxter, GT3 Max Payne, Castle Wolfenstein coming soon, Agent Under Fire, ZOE, Starfighter 2, Racer 2-surely that is good enough!?

I suppose people wouldnt want to watch them, but you can skip them anyway. Personnally I would watch them the first time round to get the story, and then skip them if I was playing through again straight after.
OK then. So we have determined that MGS2 is a good game. Woopdedoo. That is 1 game. I don't really care about 'good' games. Onimusha was an OK game, but not great. Extreme G on the N64 was a 'good' game, but that isn't what I mean. Sony's reliance on the success of the PlayStation will stab them in the back, soon enough, unless they get their act together.
