SCEI said it sold a total of 8.5 million PlayStation 2 consoles during November and December, a jump of 24 percent on the previous year. Of those sales, 4 million were in the North American market, 3.4 million were in the European market and 940,000 units were in the Japanese market. End of year domestic sales were down 27 percent; however, those in North America and Europe were up 42 percent and 27 percent respectively.
Along with the console there are also more than 1,500 software titles available, production of which has passed 300 million units, said SCEI.

Good, good - glad I'm not the only one.
I personally have only ever known electonic items to go wrong if people are heavy-handed with them, or don't look after them properly.
Keeping a console in an enclosed space isn't good for it (needs airflow for cooling); sitting it on a carpet in front of the TV isn't good for it (static is a chip-killer); having a console too near a TV (i.e. stting on to of the TV) isn't good for it. Even something simple like letting dust build up on/around it can cause problems.
Not saying that everyone here is an idiot or handles their machines roughly - there will always be some genuinely faulty machines - but I myself have known people who do these things, and then wonder why something doesn't work.
Nintendo also make profit on each Cube sold.
I would rather be Nintendo out of all the three companies. Basically because they have the GBA as well.
:)
(I could counter this with a similar demonstration that Nintendo's share price drops by x amount with every game sold, but it's Friday).

No, that was the creator of Resident Evil, Shinji Mikami - and there's no evidence whatsoever to support that claim. The only reason that you hear of more PS2's going wrong is that so many more people have them.

Nonsense, pure and simple. Think about what you're saying. You can't design electonics to go wrong after a certain time. And even if it WERE true, why is my launch-day PS2 still functioning perfectly, with no problems whatsoever?

Ah, yes - but think of all the OTHER PS2 users on these forums alone who you HAVEN'T heard from because their machine works perfectly well!
*does not weep*
How old are you? You must be about 11 because that was the age when I used to argue with my mates about who has the best console...
Your title is also wrong...
"Read it and weep GC and Xbox fanboys! Jump around the room and post it on a chat forum PS2 fanboys!"
Man, grow up!
I've known of PS2s to scratch disks up completely, it was a faulty batch which were recalled...
Does that mean that Sony are complete crap? According to you it does!
Ha!
Sony are crap!
Glasgow, eh?
