I'm thinking of picking up a GC as soon as tomorrow.
A couple that haven't stopped breathing might now be thinking "why the change of heart ?"
The most obvious reason is that I have flu right now so chances are its the words of a sick bloke ranting.
The other is that I've been laying in bed thinking back to games I played such as Metroid and Zelda and how there are times I'd like to play them again (but of course in they're new forms). Afterall, at the end of the day I am a gamer, not a fanboy and I've grown up with Nintendo games.
I might also look into a Gameboy Advance SP towards the end of the month with some of the classic Snes games that are out or coming out.
If I get a GC, this is what I'm thinking of grabbing...
Black GC
Extra controller (black of course)
Resident Evil
Resident Evil Zero
Mario Sunshine
Advanced scart lead (for best pic and sound quality)
Then of course I'll pick up Metroid Prime and Zelda as they come out. Don't need a memory card as I have the one from when I had the GC before. Anyway, thats the current thing going through my head.
Blame my credit card taunting me while I'm ill for this happening.
Right, well I'm off to ponder more on this and decide on how I'm going to pay for it all if I decide to go shopping tomorrow.
The defence weapons are used by 'L' or on auto. They rock, although on the 'Hard' level, they almost don't seem to hurt zombies that much....
What you whining about Sav? Hard is easy.....
:)
I remember I had two in the same corridor once, not a pleasent expirience.
Even more annoying is that you can't use defence weapons on them, they don't grab you, just slash you. Shame there are no molotov cocktails in this version :(
The city part at the beginning is probably one of the best Resi moments ever as its such an overwhelming feeling to see things burning everywhere and zombies all over the place.
Resi 3 has to be the best for the weapons and Nemesis is definatly one nasty sod. ;-) Put it this way - he makes the Tyrant look as strong as a normal zombie.
Code Veronica was a good game on the DC, so it'll be interesting to see how the new version looks. :-)
Can only imagine what Resi 4 will be like when it arrives. ;-) I hope it has more attention to the city type area with loads of freedom to go around different areas and buildings. Of course thats just a daydream thats not gonna happen cause Resi has always been about puzzles and set paths that you follow rather than freedom to move anywhere.
Would be an interesting idea though because then the player could choose between just trying to get out alive, or investigate buildings to find out more about whats caused the situation with the zombies. Personally I'd prefer that over all the puzzles - huge enviornment to go around with weapons and stuff lying around.
You could spot a gun shop and head for it at mach 2 and get yourself kitted up. Maybe you could find a place where there are cars around that you can grab, etc.
Like I said, you could take the short way out and just try to get out the city on your own. Or you could look for other survivors, barricade yourself into a building with or without other people until backup arrives in the form of marines or something. Or of course you can go around picking up files and stuff like in the current games to reveal more of the sinister background to it all.
So what might sound like a short game initially actually ends up being a game with plenty of longevity as there are so many ways to play it.
It's the getting them to go down that's the main problem, they run so bloody fast. One minute you're firing off your pistol the next thing you've got a big muther funning claw in your face.
That's why there's a lot more atmosphere in the remake, every single enemy you meet is deadly. Where as in Zero it was just a case of pull out one of many guns and empty a few clips in their face.
Just want to make sure they don't constantly come back until they're killed in the right way.
The only Resi games I've played is Claire's chapter on Code Veronica on the Dreamcast, and now Resi and Zero on the GC. I can't wait to get the rest of them.
Overall, I think its only the mansion game that really concentrates on the survival horror element. The others seem to provide a lot more ammo. Especially Resi 3 where not only do you get a good flow of ammo, but it also tends to be automatic weapons. ;-))
Mind you with Nemesis chasing you, you certainly don't complain about the constant flow of heavy weaponry. ;-))
I used to love blowing zombies heads off with the shotgun in the first game. It was even better in the second game when you could blow their legs off and watch as they dragged themselves towards you. ;-))
Which is kinda funny when a cut scene kicks in and you see them diving out of the way of attacks and stuff like true stuntmen. Then its back to player control and back to "Ah ! A big nasty bad guy is coming at me ! I'll just spin around on the spot and..." ;-))
Zombie grabs you, shove the grenade in it's mouth, zombie reels back, you step back, raise your gun, shoot the grenade and watch the blood splat up the walls.
Excellent :D
