Well one way might be to say something that I'm about to say...

I'm thinking of picking up a GC as soon as tomorrow.
A couple that haven't stopped breathing might now be thinking "why the change of heart ?"

The most obvious reason is that I have flu right now so chances are its the words of a sick bloke ranting.

The other is that I've been laying in bed thinking back to games I played such as Metroid and Zelda and how there are times I'd like to play them again (but of course in they're new forms). Afterall, at the end of the day I am a gamer, not a fanboy and I've grown up with Nintendo games.

I might also look into a Gameboy Advance SP towards the end of the month with some of the classic Snes games that are out or coming out.

If I get a GC, this is what I'm thinking of grabbing...
Black GC
Extra controller (black of course)
Resident Evil
Resident Evil Zero
Mario Sunshine
Advanced scart lead (for best pic and sound quality)

Then of course I'll pick up Metroid Prime and Zelda as they come out. Don't need a memory card as I have the one from when I had the GC before. Anyway, thats the current thing going through my head.
Blame my credit card taunting me while I'm ill for this happening.
Right, well I'm off to ponder more on this and decide on how I'm going to pay for it all if I decide to go shopping tomorrow.

You choose hiking or climbing?

And the defence items are special daggers, not the survival knife. Ood capcom.

Well, after starting a game of Resident Evil, all I can say is - I hope I'm missing some big thing in it cause I've been left hating it already.

I answered the survey thing at the beginning (I'm guessing its Capcom's, er, clever way of setting the difficulty level. I selected the top answer. I start the game and I'm left constantly with the view of "wow" as I see all the new cut scenes and graphics.

I take control of Jill and investigate with Barry - memory kicks in and I take the shield off the wall and go through the door to go and see the first zombie. Just like the PS1 version (but better of course), the Kenneth scene kicks in, etc.

I back off a little, take aim and bang, bang, bang, bang, bang......hmmmmmm, still alive....bang, bang - zombie grabs me at this point and bites me. I push him off, he gets up again. Bang, bang - zombie grabs me again, bites my neck, rips throat out, I'm dead.
Well that seems a bit crap. Meh, I'll try again.

I skip through all the cut scenes and just get back to where I was. Encounter zombie again - this time I get much more distance between me and him. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang - zombie goes down - bang, bang - zombie gets up again - bang, bang - zombie finally kicks bucket after containg more lead than guts.
It has taken 12 of my 15 bullets to put this poxy thing down - a simple zombie. Feeling a little frustrated about this, I remember reading about the "defence weapon" thing and switch to my knife, afterall, no point in even trying to kill anything with 3 bullets if that piece of crap zombie just took 12 hits.

I see Barry again, do the splitting up thing and start venturing around. I grab the map and go into the small back room. Zombie comes out, I await in the claustrophobic room with my knife at the ready. I swipe him, he grabs me, I press 'L', he bites me. With swear words starting to fly, I manage to push him off and decide to run for it.
I go the way Barry went and decide to go through the door just beyond where Kenny is lying on the floor making a mess of the room.
I go through the door and I hear a zombie. I see the green herbs on the floor - after using both of them, I'm finally at a decent amount of health again.
I goto the next room, pick up another green herb and sure enough, a fat smelly zombie comes out and starts doing his 'thing' towards me. Well theres no point in running back, I can't really go anywhere else. I stand my ground with my er, "trusty" knife.
I swipe at him, he bites me. I push him to the floor (swearing again filling my room), select my handgun, unload the last 3 bullets into his fat ar5e, switch back to my knife, zombie gets up, I decide that the "defence" thing must take a well timed press of the 'L' button, zombie lunges, I press 'L' - zombies bites my throat out again - I'm dead.

Well, that was er, fun. So basically, it takes practically a whole sodding ammo clip to put a zombie down, the rooms are too small to really dodge much, one bite from a zombie is enough to severely damage you, 2 is death and somewhere in the middle of this, this game is supposed to be possible to complete and you're supposed to actually investigate rooms that must surely require you to clean a room of zombies at times to grab the files, etc that you need.

Sorry, but I really don't remember Resi Evil being this unforgiving and downright bloody annoying on the PS1. After that experience, scenes like the giant snake must be a right bloody barrel of laughs.
If thats what its like then its gonna be collecting dust on my shelf in no time. I'm really disappointed cause the cut scenes and presentation of the game are excellent and I was really excited about going through the game again just looking at it. But after that, I've just been put right off of playing it.
Resi Zero was (and is) an excellent game, I was expecting this one to be a bit more playable than it ended up being.

All I can say is, I really hope I'm missing something simple that I haven't done, or I've stumbled onto the hard mode by mistake or something. Cause right now, that was and will be the only time that game comes out of its box - I'm totally gutted (and so is Jill - alot more so than me).

Sometimes I wish I had played the original Resi on the Playstation, then I could really appreciate how much better it is.

Just got the Gravity suit on Prime, that's one more step to beating it on hard mode.

Well I've got through Resi 0. Excellent ending. :-) Might start on the mansion Resi tonight to get things rolling - then the pressures on to get it done before Friday when I get Prime. ;-)

Even though a few puzzles have apparently changed a bit, I've at least beaten the game on PS1, so that should help.
Its back to work for me tomorrow so I'll only have a few hours a night to play the game, but I think I can do it. ;-)

As for Skies Of Arcadia Legends, I'm still looking forward to it - sounds a good game. :-)

It's a bad port, the sound on the original DC version was three times as good as Legends', some of it has been badly compressed. The main character models look better, but apart from that I havne't noticed any graphical improvements.

I wish they had increased the draw distance, most of the time sailing it's just a mass of blue sky, yet islands and other ships sort of fade in about 20m in fornt of you.

There are one or two particulary horrendous sound effects, listen for the sound of their footsteps as they run across the sand after the temple of Pyrynn.

No i'm going to shut up before I completely put everyone off of buying it.

It's still a fantastic game.

Did they not update it much at all then?

They won't give SoAL a good mark, neither will NGC.

They'll say the graphics and sound are too bad. What do they expect? It's a two year old Dreamcast game. It deserves 9/10 for the gameplay alone.
