I am interested in the above subject

and am wondering how you would go about starting out in this field. I am just completing a degree in computers, so have a very good background in the whole subject, just sod all experience in journalism.

perhaps applying to review on websites or something would be best?

I only ask, as apart from the multimedia side of computers (websites - sound processing - video editing), there aren't many other jobs in computing I can see myself doing for any length of time (programming, network administration etc). Computer games have always been a passion.

Any input would be sweet.

NOM team get paid a "bomb"? Guess it is all relative really. From the few people I know who've done that sort of work, none wished to be in it very long. Then they all went into work one morning and were told their jobs no longer existed (the day Future caught up with the rest of the world and realised there was no money to be made in creating original content for the internet). I've only kept in touch with one, and he's had similar experiences in a number of places, all for peanuts.

I've met a number of game journalists through these guys, never have I met a single one whose had a dime to spare.

True but it depends who you write for. If you right for a minority magazine then yes that is quite likely but the NOM "team" consists of only 4 or 5 people (all of whom I have met) and they get paid a bomb and anyone wanting their jobs has to wait for them to retire or go somewere else. There are like NO job vacancies.

Why would you ever want to work for ONM or NOM or whatever the hell that crap is called?

Some advice. Get EDGE magazine, there are loads of adverts about stuff like that. Ignore the rest of the magazine for it is crap.

Yes and no. Three years ago, maybe, but all the major publishers (esp Future) have been shafted in the last couple of years. A job writing about computer games now has worse pay than ever and every new day brings worries of redundancy as staff rosters shrink... and shrink... and shrink...

Hey! This is my job field get your own! Heh just kidding emmm I am still at Highschool so I don't really know. I would start by writing reviews for sites like this (YAY) and if you win GADs then you know you have some talent in the field. I am personally hoping to go to Stirling Uni to study Journalism so that I can one day work for Nintendo Official Magazine. ALL media jobs however (including gaming journalism) require a lot of experience and competition is fierce. I am going to work at my local radio station when I turn 16 this year and am allowed work exp there. After that i'm just going to keep on getting more experience in the field and hopeffully I will get there in the end.
