BBC report on E3 Nintendo performance

"Nintendo's conference was like a retirement home for classic game developers as Toru Iwatani, the brains behind Pac-Man, played on-stage against Mario wunderkind, Shigeru Miyamoto, who is currently working on an all-new Pac-Man title.

Refreshingly self-critical, the assembled masses were told of the mistakes the big N made with marketing the GameCube, and the difficulty the traditionally family-orientated company was having in appealing to modern, gore-obsessed players.

But their president, Satoru Iwata, in a nod to the Grand Theft Auto series, assured Nintendo-philes: "You won't see Mario shoot a hooker".

And while we were assured the GameCube had a rosy future, its successor is already officially in development."

And what exactly did Microsoft show at E3?

I saw practically nothing shown from the Microsoft camp, while Nintendo at least showed us some of the games that could make a difference to the console.

E3 was poor on the whole - no-one REALLY showed that much, so how the Beeb find a way to criticise Nintendo for this I do not know.

Pffffft.

While Nintendo live on, the Gamecube lives on. And I can't see Nintendo losing anything in the near future, due to their success in the handheld market. Nintendo may well be challenged when Sony's PSP and Nokia's N-Gage come along in the handheld market, but GBA will reign there for a little while yet, and while it does, Gamecube will continue to sell and generate money for Nintendo, which is what matters nowadays.

And also, the Gamecube sales have hardly been shabby recently, and due to Argos and Dixons' recent price cuts the Gamecube is suddenly back on track here. Metroid and Zelda have both made it to the top spot in the charts and, although I still believe Xbox is outselling Gamecube here, Nintendo have taken a step in the right direction.

Anyway, BBC know about as much as my nan on the subject of gaming.

I remember a report on 'next gen consoles' they did on Newsround last year before the Xbox and GameCube were released.

They got 3 PS2 fanboys(and girls) to review the three consoles and say which they preferred...it was obvious before the report even started which they'd choose.

2 Zelda games (Although, to be quite honest, I'm not impressed by either of them - though the name is enough to sell), a Mario Kart game, and many many Pokémon titles (although most look pap).

They're enough to keep the GameCube going for longer than the next 6 months.

Even a lumbering non-games company such as the BBC realises Nintendo is for kids and the Gamecube is doomed.
And zero titles at E3, wheras there have been Halo 2, Doom 3, Tomb Raider:Angel of Darkness.

Gamecube dead in 6 months.
