How wrong could I be?
Not only is what she said a load of rubbish, but it looks like Nintendo are delaying the release of the GameCube to September next year!
According to Codejunkies, who develop game enhancers for nearly every console said that a games publisher has revealed that "Europe is not a priority for Nintendo".
Tell us something we didn't already know!
I'm sure most of you already know how Nintendo treat us like dirt. The only exception being the release of the Game Boy Advance being released just after America had them. Ever since Nintendo have made videogames, they have been delaying European and sometimes American release dates. It happened with the N64, and with top games like 'Zelda: Ocarina of Time'.
So why delay the console this time?
Well it's not been confirmed by Nintendo themselves that they are going to delay it's release, but part of Grant Hughes article on Codejunkies says this:
"A spokesperson for Nintendo told MCV that no Euro launch date will be given "until after we have seen how the launches have gone in Japan and the US"."
Well the launch in Japan was a success (considering what had just happened) and I can't see Nintendo failing to reach audiences in the United States. However Nintendo will use anything to put off their launches in Europe.
The trouble with Nintendo, especialy Yamauchi (think that's how you spell his name), is that they are too confident. Nintendo keep having arguments with top developers like Squaresoft, and they keep delaying and rising the prices of their software, and yet they expect us all to be buying their consoles and games with no complaints. I will still be getting my GameCube, but if there is a massive delay as predicted, I wont be too happy with Nintendo about it.
So if you are excited about getting your GameCubes and seing all the new games and innovations, all I can suggest is: Don't hold your breath.
And as to the no one will buy because of the PS2 argument - look to the US. Gamecube's are impossible to find - the innitial shipment of 700,000 have gone. Added to that, an undisclosed shipment that's arricing before Xmas has also sold out in every place that's offered it so far. That's thought to be around another 700,000.
Stores will have a few consoles on their seheves, but 1.4m Gamecubes will sell out with ease long before Xmas.
Yeah - sounds like Sony's got things wrapped up.
Your all forgetting one major thing - the average age of a game is higher than it's ever been and the GC has the lowest launch price of a "modern" console - definetly since the 8-bit days. More and more people will be doing things right now and buying more than one console.
Yada yada yada console wars.
And although there markets do cross, they aren't aiming strictly at the same ones.
Games like Pokemon and Mario have a huge audience, and will continue to bring young people into gaming - if Nintendo can deliver the goods to keep them there I can't forsee any problems.
I love Nintendo!
But their European marketing strategy and attitude towards European gamers - sucks.
Their games are great, and the sooner they start making games for Sony, the better.
Every day, the market is getting smaller for the GC because of massive PS2 sales. All you people who say 'they arn't in the same market, so PS2 sales doesn't matter' - are slowly saying - 'I'm going to buy a PS2 instead of a GC'. Sounds like their competing on the same ground to me....
Hundreds of PS2s are sold in the UK every day. These people will more than likely NOT buy a GC.
Look at what GTA3 has done.... There are 4 or 5 die hard Nintys on here who are now buying PS2s, or are saying that they'll probably get a PS2 as well as GC.
The GC is 6-8 months away. In that time, bigger and better games will be released on the PS2, and even more people will turn from the GC. MGS2 anyone? As soon as the forums are filled with talk of this game, the Ninty's are going to be more miffed with their N64s than ever.
Goldeneye and Zelda are good, but are you really going to play them for ANOTHER 6-12 months before the GC??
This is why the N64 lost out to the PS1:
No release date - so no-one knows for sure if/when they were getting one.
Relatively poor technology - was no better than the PS1.
Timing - released well after the competition is established.
Games few and far between - with delays.
False promises - 64HDD
Advertising - None, compared to PS1.
Image - Kids only.
As far as I can tell they are right on schedule for a repeat performance...
No one has any idea when they'll get one, April-September sometime seems to be the current guess.
The technology isn't as good as the x-box, and equal to the PS2.
The PS2 will have taken the whole market by the time it is released, everyone I know is getting a PS2, and no-one has heard of the GC.
You can only hope that they'll produce more games than they did for N64, but with increased production costs due to the advanced architecture, I can't see that many more.
With Nintendo's history of add-on failure, I'm also sceptical about the GBA-GC link too.
The image they are portraying (again) is a kids machine. It looks like a duplo brick. It may have RE... well whoopdie doo... The PS had that 4-5 years ago!
I'm going to get a GC, if only for Monkey Ball and Star Wars (as long as the games don't cost £50). But I'm certain it will fail because of the points above.
