After reading the latest NGC magazine, I was relieved to hear that a spokeswoman from Nintendo of Europe said that the GameCube's release date has not been announced, but has been stated as Spring so that European customers aren't disappointed by any delays.

How wrong could I be?

Not only is what she said a load of rubbish, but it looks like Nintendo are delaying the release of the GameCube to September next year!

According to Codejunkies, who develop game enhancers for nearly every console said that a games publisher has revealed that "Europe is not a priority for Nintendo".

Tell us something we didn't already know!

I'm sure most of you already know how Nintendo treat us like dirt. The only exception being the release of the Game Boy Advance being released just after America had them. Ever since Nintendo have made videogames, they have been delaying European and sometimes American release dates. It happened with the N64, and with top games like 'Zelda: Ocarina of Time'.

So why delay the console this time?

Well it's not been confirmed by Nintendo themselves that they are going to delay it's release, but part of Grant Hughes article on Codejunkies says this:

"A spokesperson for Nintendo told MCV that no Euro launch date will be given "until after we have seen how the launches have gone in Japan and the US"."

Well the launch in Japan was a success (considering what had just happened) and I can't see Nintendo failing to reach audiences in the United States. However Nintendo will use anything to put off their launches in Europe.

The trouble with Nintendo, especialy Yamauchi (think that's how you spell his name), is that they are too confident. Nintendo keep having arguments with top developers like Squaresoft, and they keep delaying and rising the prices of their software, and yet they expect us all to be buying their consoles and games with no complaints. I will still be getting my GameCube, but if there is a massive delay as predicted, I wont be too happy with Nintendo about it.

So if you are excited about getting your GameCubes and seing all the new games and innovations, all I can suggest is: Don't hold your breath.

Is that because you aren't Human or because the difference in quality is large? What is the difference in quality between N64 music and CD quality music anyway?

I didn't think the Human ear could distinguish too much between CD quality and lower quality music anyway.

If the GC is going to be such a big fuss then we should all get X-Boxes, it'll be out on March 14th (apparently). Microsoft haven't done a console before but unless the thing is full of bugs then it should be great. These days though it's harder and harder to see why I should bother getting a console when a PC is better. Consoles have good multiplayer yes but they have little else going for them over PC games. Anyway PC games have good online capabilities these days and they just keep improving, especially with modability. I don't think I'll get a PS2 because it doesn't have any games that appeal to me especially when compared to PC games. It'll be too old soon anyway. A GC may be worthwhile, if not only because the games tend to be unique, but the price does put a question mark over it and if there aren't enough games for it then it could lose out. The X-Box is pretty much going to have PC games anyway (Halo, for example was originally going to be PC) so I just wonder if it's worth getting the box for the multiplayer because I don't want to end up getting two copies of the game, one to play online and one to play on the X-Box.

I don't know if I'll get GTA3. The other two were good but this one is maybe trying too hard. If it is taking so much longer to get to the PC it had better be improved over the PS2 version or I might just leave it behind. Previous PS2 to PC conversions have disappointed and included a delay for no reason.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

The thing is Nintendo haven't given a European release date for quite the opposite reason, they don't want to disappoint us.

If they said they could launch in November, only to find that they just couldn't get the consoles made, and put the release back to Spring we'd all be gutted, probably go out and buy a PS2 because we felt so let down.

But what if Nintendo give no further details than Spring, and then next month spring an actual release date upon us (Probably March 8th).

We'd be much happier, and willing to wait, unlike if we'd been given a date, only to find it wrong.

Besides, even if Nintendo do let you down with their release dates, have they ever let you down with the quality of their games?

And the GBA was released here swiftly after the Japanese and US launch because they're universal - people would get them for the same price, imported, and Nintendo couldn't stop this.

The GBA has been released here quickly after Japan, which is to Nint's credit. Everyone was happy. But now they pull this 'Europe arn't as important' bull with the GC.

I'm not prepared to wait for nintendo to pull out an unsataisfactory UK release for 50-100% more money than in Jap/US, and 1 year later.

I had to get an imported SNES many years ago too. And for the same reasons.

Before there was any factual content behind the gamecube everyone could say what they liked but haha look at the situation now, I'm getting one but it will never come close to what the PS2 has, thought I'd just point that out ;-)

I'm sure Nintendo will succeed in Japan and the USA, but it will charge 2x as much for games and the console in Europe. Buy it whenever it's released if you want (next year 'some time'), but I'll be getting a cheap one on import.
Nintndo Europe is a joke. Sony have got the right idea in Europe, it is in Europewhere the Nintendo will fail (the original topic discussion) not globally. I take it you are living in Europe?
