Right. The web design forum here needs a website, for posting all sorts of advice, links, news etc. A "community" website. It should be interactive and fully display the best of our skills. So:

Coding - Me, cjh and ajh. Basically anyone who can.

Site design and layout - Reaper and Tyla. You guys work together on it. Give me a final layout as a Fireworks file and I'll take it from there

Content - Andy/Bob, and everyone else here

We need some webspace, I'll get some at Freedom2Surf once their servers come back online. They're a very good server for what we want to do. If anyone else wants to help out, that's great.

Any more suggestions would be welcome.

It's nice but

a) It wouldn't fit.

b) This is not a games site in any way.

And again for all those stupid people:

To access our webspace on Lunke's box, go to http://luke.ac6.org/webtech/

I have a section with all my designs on as well: http://luke.ac6.org/webtech/turbonutter.php, it also has some other stuff on it as well.

More news:

I've started coding! I used one of my designs that we thought looked nice, not because we're going to keep it but because I still need Tyla's (if we use that anyway, grr) in a useable format. It'll be easy to replace it later with the final design we choose. If you want to see how it's going, you'll need to get either Reaper or Whooo on MSN to give you my current IP address (which right now is http://62.64.156.12/webtech/) so you can see it.

Hum. I sense tension here ;)

Competition is healthy, but let's not split the site into "Tyla's site" and "Rob's site"..

I'll work on some designs + layouts tonight, expect something for starters around midnight..

You're all more than welcome to dump stuff on an apache on my broadband (shh, don't tell ntl..), use your favourite ftp app as follows.. it would be cool to be able to use this, or some other space as a collaborative area..

Server: luke.ac6.org
User: webtech
Pass: 666

Current directory should be /var/www/webtech/ -- please don't stray too far from it.

enjoy :)

Yes, but I'd have infinite control over my site if I used my own code, which is what Blognation uses. I don't need other people's code, because I have "da skillz".

:-D

OK, here is (possibly) my best design yet, so hold tight!

I am very confident of this one being better than Tyla's!

Do you have a better suggestion?

No, thought not.

PHP is perfect for this (or maybe any) job. The site will be huge and I am *not* updating everything manually. Using PHP we can store all the documents in the database and not only generate menus, but search, organise and generally keep everything tidy.

I was just showing off!! But trust me, it works!! It works currently on a site we built serving over 150000 people a month and have yet to have it break!! As for integration... I see PHP seems to be the way things will go here!! Why?
