Got a little excited about RTS games the other day.

Aside from the average sounding Alien vs Predator game are there any other RTS games in progress for Xbox?

Link up would be perfect for these aswell.

That sentence pretty much sums up why Pikmin's great and other's aren't. The Nintendo bit isn't important, could be any developer really, but the 'designed for a console' part is. Age of Empires, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Jurassic Park and the rest don't pull it off because they're all PC ports. And they just don't work on a lesser machine with a controller.

Pikmin was designed with the GameCube in mind, and so the control scheme and general nature/structure of the game all ties in nicely, providing a seamless and enjoyable gaming experience. In fact, because very few are designing RTS primarily for consoles, it's an untapped market and someone could make a lot of money out of it.

Nintendo already have.

Which was designed by Nintendo for a console. I couldn't list another company which could pull it off in such a way.

If you ask me, Real Time Strategies are crud on consoles.

Except Pikmin. Wonderful Pikmin.

That is all.

Pikmin rocks, but it is simplified.

Commandos on PS2 and PC are totally different games.

Needless to say PC version kicks butt.

Oh, I hope that's true, I liked the look of that for the PC but I doubt this PC is powerful enough. If it's released on X-Box I'll certainly consider buying it.

Every console RTS has turned out to be a disaster. Commandos 2 is balls on the Xbox yet fantastic on the PC. Its got nothing to do with the power of the Xbox its the whole layout which requires a keyboard.

If they released an RTS with a mouse and keyboard i'd be happy.

Provided it had XBox Live support, I'd like to see Red Alert 2 or Yuri's Revenge (or both in a tidy package) come to XBox. It's one of the few RTS games I enjoy playing.

There was news floating around that C&C Generals was supposed to come to XBox. I think RTS games are definatly lacking on consoles and the Xbox out of the 3 should have no problem handling them.

Link up would be great, not to mention multiplayer via XBox Live and of course extra buildings and units being put up for download.
Of course not everyone likes RTS games, but at the same time there are plenty of people that do like them (such as me) and in the long run, XBox Live is aiming to please everyone so hopefully it'll only be a matter of time.
