Got a little excited about RTS games the other day.

Aside from the average sounding Alien vs Predator game are there any other RTS games in progress for Xbox?

Link up would be perfect for these aswell.

I thinks he's set on his opinion of PC online gaming, I don't believe anything you say will change his mind.

He seems to have scuttled off quickly after making that comment. As I say, I play Counter Strike every day and on very rare occassions I come across idiots but they are booted quickly. He makes a sweeping generalisation because he can not setup and run an online game.

I don't think Belldandy (can I call you that?) is trying to offend/insult you Ali - He's making a point about the majority of PC online gamers. Most of them sit inside, all day, everyday. Training themselves to be good at the game that they are playing. No friends/social life etc.

And this time I fully agree with him, I've never played Counter Strike online, but I know one heck of a lot about online gaming. I used to play Age of Empires quite a bit, I loved it! But finding a decent game to join was difficult. Many people requested elite players only, Or people would kick me out of the game if I was beating them a little - It's that petty.

I used to play a game called "Infantry" which went pay 2 play last year so I quit. I got pretty good at it - Each game had about 300-400 players in it and clans and...well you know the score. But there was quite a few people who would go off on one if you killed them with a certain weapon, It got to the point where they'd get their "online mates" to gang up on you in the game - There was even a whole language created for the game: -

"sg lamer" - Shot gun lamer
"mm lamer" - Micro missiles lamer
"gang raped" - When one person is killed by a group of others
"n00b" - New person
"rpg lamer" - Rocket propelled grenade lamer

.....

You get the picture - People are obsessed. Or people would really have a go at you if your ping was slightly higher then theirs.

Thats why i've gone off PC online gaming - Too much hassle - You gotta be good or you may aswell f**k off. Not saying its a bad thing it's just it's not for me.

That's why I want LIVE, Talk to people through voice, proper english. Non of this 1337 milarky. Live hooks you up with a server that match's your ability in that game. Newbie? Fine it'll put you with other newbies. It's a structured system that's been well implemented by Microsoft - Yes for once Microsoft have done something good.

Counter Strike will be pretty excellent on LIVE. Voice chat, No need to download patchs, Speaking to good chaps/lass's. You won't need a PhD in computer science to give optimal peformance - The Xbox is ready to go.

Plug in, Insert Disc, Game on.

So you are basically saying I am a retard with no life because I enjoy playing Counter Strike?

Say what you like, but I spent all weekend trying to get a decent game of CS and didn't. It's going to take more than what you say to convince me PC Gaming is as easy as Live.

I am up and running with a decent server within 30 seconds of loading it up. People make an unnecessary fuss about setting it up. Install Half Life, download version 1.10.10.1 (I think) and then download the Full Retail version of Counter Strike 1.5! Install to the same directory and input your CD key. Once it loads customise your user and customise your ideal game. Simple.

Lag? None at all. Select a server which responds within 100ms and you will get pings of below 30 at all times and all the people using those serves have to have Broadband otherwise they wouldn't respond that quickly. No lag, no trouble, no hackers and constant admin. Plenty of servers out there for each map exist like this.

The point is Live makes it easy for everyone to play, fairly. No need for newbie servers etc because it handles that. Ghost Recon on Live beats CS on PC online in my opinion - better community, no lag, fair playing field, great visuals, and a learning curve whihc works. Put the disc in, sign in, get gaming,

CS - install Half Life, update half life, install CS, update CS, find a server (a task in itself) , plus no default voice chat, how crap is that ? Team games work best with voice. Why do you think real military operators are in real time comms with each other ? Voice=team work. A lot of people don't say much on Live, granted, but thats changing, I've seen it change over time.

When Condition Zero is released I will be happy just playing the one online title. If Dead or Alive online becomes a success and Project Gotham 2 online I will consider getting LIVE. I am happy with Counter Strike for the odd 1 hour I play it each day. LIVE is too much hassle at the moment with all the network sharing business and unless it will run on Windows 98 Second Edition I won't be getting it at all.
