So I created a new one, for those that didn't throw it against the wall months ago.

I thought we could start up some kind of small forum league, featuring the best five scores for each chapter and a total. Something like this:

Chapter One:
1. Blank: 89 000 000 000 000
2. Valentino Rossi: 1
3. Whitestripes: 0
4. Cookie Monster: No score low enough
5. Someone else with a vague interest: Even lower.

Only there probably aren't enough people willing. But anyway, we need a new Ikaruga thread, so here it is. My chapter one highscore is now 3.5 million, 113 chain, if anyone cares.

My copy of Ikaruga never got the dust blown off it, have only played F-Zero GX for the last 10 days, what a game, still will pick up Ikaruga again one day.

3.6 million on chapter 2 today. I've done better in practice mode, but this is my highest on challenge.

Woo. 8.19 million now, which means I got two extra lives over the course of the run. I got over a million on chapter three as well, which I've never done before. Because I'm really crap at it and never practice it.

Yeah, it's a biatch. I worked through it quite logically a while ago though: at first I just kept shooting so I wouldn't run into anything; then I learned to do it so I could dodge everything without shooting anything; now I'm gradually shooting more and more enemies while keeping the chain going.

The boxes on 2-2 are quite easy though, depending on how quickly you can get the bonus rings and then get rid of them.

those bonus rings are great when you pull them off, great way of building your chain count before taking on the boxes. I hate 2-1 though.

I've started to practice chapter two, because the ratio of effort to increased score is not proving very productive with chapter one any more. I can get a 29 chain on 2-1, and I reckon I could get 32 with a bit more work. Then I'd probably have to change strategy. I'm trying to get three rings of bonus enemies at the start of 2-2 as well, where previously I got only one.

Level four is actually harder than level five from the few times I've been on them. The bit near the start when you have the tiny streams of different polarity bullets, obstacles and enemies coming your way is absolutely mental. How you can chain that efficiently is beyond me.

There's also a boss on chapter five that constantly changes polarity and fires big homings at you, a bit like the chapter one boss does. So you have to keep changing and absorbing, or I suppose you could change and not absorb, because you can dodge. Although not, it would seem, consistently.

But I've not really started to practice chapter two yet, so I'll leave that alone.

Its a really challenging game, i got to what i think is the final boss of level 4 yesterday, he has 2 guns that fire bullets like a sprinkler system. Its insane.
