On your status page you have just added:

"Resolving PHP/CGI email issues on the server.: We are in the process of correcting a minor misconfiguration on the web servers which allowed mail to be sent without correctly specifying who the mail was sent from. If you are currently making use of a Formmail script or PHP email, please make sure that any emails your script tries to send are configured to be sent as coming from a Freeola Hosted email address."

Can Freeola say if this means you now MUST use the 'from' field in your forms?

The Freeola help pages say:

"From:You can also set the from field; this will be reflected in the "From:" field in your mail client, i.e. the sender of the email. So if you have more than one form you can easily see which is which.
"

I don't use this field - but if it is now to become mandatory then can you say how much notice you are giving before the changes take affect?

The formmail issues have been going on for quite a while so I hope if this field is now mandatory you don't suddenly introduce it without proper notice!

Thanks in advance from a slightly worried user!

Hi webspin4u,
I've just had a look at a couple of your sites and they don't seem to have the required:

They won't work without this.
Are you happy you have you updated your sites with the latest code?

I have now sent over 50 test messages and still not had one back, I do however get redirected to my original thank you page which means that my customers think that their messages are getting through and they are not, can we not go back to the original version as this is causing huge commercial/business issues for my company.

FWIW

My form emails arrived with around a 30 minute delay first thing this morning. But now things seemed to have stopped!

It's been over two hours since I've had a response, - I'm attempting to troubleshoot my sites so this makes it virtually impossible.

NB. Like cjh, I also have scripts that used the visitors email to fill in the 'from' field. But I've changed my code not to use this and allow the -f freeolaemailaddress to take effect while I try to get things working again.

NB2. It was a shame your latest service bulletin didn't mention the loss of form data over the last week or so - I'm now having to explain this to my clients myself :(

loki:
"mail('[email protected]', 'subject', 'body', 'From:
[email protected]', '-f
[email protected]');
"
.

Does this new addition have to be a Freeola address? My current custom script sets the "from field" to be from the person filling in the form, rather than my own, and I've added this update, but unlike Digitrader, have not received any recent tests.

It's very good to hear they're now coming through okay :) We'll continue to look at the MX servers to see if we can speed things up further.

Thank you for your patience.

I have been advised by our Systems Team that they have been successfully receiving test messages after changes made this morning. They are doing further testing as I type.

Unfortunately it seems that, due to a problem with the server configuration problem, mail sent last week that has not yet arrived could have been bounced by the server and may not be delivered.

It is possible that current delays to your tests are caused by our MX servers running slowly due to incoming spam attempts, this would be separate to the Form To Mail issue and would affect all e-mail temporarily (our Form To Mail tests bypass the Freeola MX servers which is why our tests are being received so quickly). Our systems team are also running tests on the MX servers as we speak to see what load they're currently experiencing.

Please accept my apologies for the ongoing problems. I will chase our Systems Team every half hour until I get an update to their latest testing.

I've managed to get a test message to arrive from both a Freeola script and a perl one!

The Freeola script sent through some information from a cookie that I set for some reason?!

As things run so slow it's not the easiest thing to troubleshoot.

I'm guessing lots of messages will have gone missing, which has been rather painful!

Hopefully I'll get a GAD for highlighting the problem to Freoola back in August :)
