As for DQ's and counts outs changing title over, its like that because the game is a damn rush job. Theres so much that needs to be done and thats one of them. Also, Molly is now my manager - don't ask what thats supposed to mean because nothings happened since she agreed to it. I've been going out to matches on my own still and anytime inbetween is no different either. The only thing that shows I have a manager at all right now is that it shows up on my characters profile.
I was enjoying messing around with the effects and stuff for my entrance and I even like using my character in the matches - makes them playable. But heres the latest crud that I've run into...
Table match - a big match for me in season mode against Hulk Hogan. Mid match, that pathetic little nothing Randy Orten runs in. He keeps going for Hogan and not me though (basically all these people that are supposed to hate me end up trying to beat up my opponents instead of me - doesn't get me disqualified either - o figure that one out).
While those two are busy, I see this as a chance to get the table into the ring. I pick it up and go to run into the ring with it. Ok, the game won't let me (and yes I'm pressing the black button to enter the ring as I run). Ok, I'll try throwing it in - that doesn't work either. Wonderful, so I have to put him through it outside the ring.
I set up the table and try to get inbetween the two gimps fighting. I slam Orten on the floor to get him out the way - meanwhile, Hogan decides to run around in little circles like a mong. I eventually catch him with a punch and knock him down - I pick him up and just irish whip him in time before Orten comes along. Hogan just bumps into the table and carries on going about his business.
Ok, I guess I have to do a move like a suplex that'll put him through it. After getting inbetween the girls again - Orten is on the floor - que Hogans little circle run again.
This repeats until the match time of 10 mins runs out cause guess what - by the time I calm down Hogan with a punch in his old age face, then hoist him up in a move to put him through the table, that piece of smelly skank filth Orten has gotten up and all he has to do (and DOES keep doing), is do his grapple at me and thats enough to make me drop Hogan.
Frustration isn't a harsh enough word to describe that when you're actually trying to do it. So that match ended up as a draw.
Next, it gets to Armeggedon and after my hard work - I have a title match, excellent. Sure enough, the Undertaker shows up, gets out the limo with the belt on his shoulder and the pay-per-view starts. It gets to the match and the announcer starts her piece - no mention that the match is for the World title. I come down to the ring and then its the Undertakers turn - no belt on him to be seen, nothing in the little box that pops up to suggest thats hes the champ and again, no mention from the announcer about him being the champ either. If not for the little picture of the belt under the vs word back on the match line up screen, you wouldn't even know a title is up for grabs - no atmosphere whatsoever.
I won the match and got a little screen saying congratulations, your the world champs, with me walking around looking pretty delighted with the turn out (still no bloody belt to be seen though).
After that, it was time for another RAW and I turned up in the limo with the belt on my shoulder - but thats it, I don't wear it to any matches or anything. Don't even have it on me inbetween matches when I'm doing stuff.
If THQ have any decency, they'll start compensating all the buyers of this game with at least half their money back cause I think its beyond a cheek to actually expect a full 40 quid for this. In fact its bloody criminal. This game is not finished - simple as. Of course plenty of developers put out utter crud and expect us to pay for it, but this is the same people that are responsible for the Smackdown series - not to mention other great wrestling games of the past over other formats such as the N64 games. Sick thing is, PS2 owners will be getting a game like Smackdown AND paying less for it. If this is the kind of "effort" they wanna make on the XBox, they can shove it up their rectum sideways and sod off.
Quite how anyone has managed to give this game good reviews is beyond me - well maybe not the mags after no doubt having a bag full of nice banknotes slipped accross their desks.
Utter crud - Won't even blink at the news Of RAW 3 if or when it arrives. If they couldn't listen to anyone this time, I very much doubt they'll bother next time either. Hands up though - they caught me good and now I've wasted 40 quid. Well done THQ - you won't do it a second time.
The gameplay has been fine tuned and feels more natural than the previous outing, and the graphics are some of the best around. I've played a portion of the career mode and it seems sound, alot better than any other wrestling career mode. If, like me, you're collection is mainly multiplayer-orientated, then I can see this title lasting until the next (inevitable) one.
From quite a thorough playtest I'd give this game around 9 out of 10, but the fact I enjoyed the original may mean you should completely ignore me/ set me alite.
Its definatly nothing special so far for me. I'm wondering if either THQ/Yukes are deaf to peoples feedback, or if they have some kind of deal they have to honour with Sony in that it must not compare to Smackdown.
Cause considering this come from the same people, its pretty stupid how they seem reluctant to use whats great about Smackdown in order to make the RAW series really good.
Last night, I put the game in and within an 30 mins, I was already hating it. Its a little faster than the first game, but not by much. I chose a couple of the superstars to try the game out and found myself doing a combination of swear word screaming and practically breaking my controller as I bashed the buttons like a maniac in a desperate bid to get the useless mongs off the floor after being knocked down. The CPU decided that everytime it hit me to the ground, it would pin me like 10 times in a row each time. The reason it was getting to do this was because my wrestler was just too slow to get up after kicking out of a pin.
After a little break from the game, I went back to it and decided to create my own wrestler. Made a pretty decent wrestler after a couple of hours of messing around with the various stuff - particularly the entrance (not saying this is bad at all - it was kinda fun getting everything how I wanted). There seemed to be a real lack of moves compared to the Smackdown games though.
After that I decided to test my bloke in the ring in a couple of exhibition matches. How different the game suddenly became - my wrestler felt more responsive and I won the matches quite comfatably. Today I've gone on to win King Of The Ring, plus my first Royal Rumble. Things look up a lot more when you create a wrestler and use them rather than the wrestlers on the roster.
I've now started a season with my wrestler (The Playboy Peter Ammon) ;-p
Cool thing is, even though the name Ammon is obviously not in the game to use as a word in your ring announcement, the name Aaron is. With the help of an American accent, Aaron suddenly sounds like Ammon - so it sounds like my full character name is announced - yay ! ;-))
Anyway, back onto season mode - um, not too great actually. Basically you get the list of matches up, but rather than walk around between matches, you basically "script" the event with what you wanna do. You do all this before anything in the event starts, so straight off, you could look for a manager, then rest, then interfere with a match and then go and encourage someone, etc.
Personally I would have preferred to do things as the events develop, cause overall, someone could come along and beat the living spit outta you right at the beginning, but after that you'll carry on with your plans that you decided before. And heres how my season has gone so far between the matches...
First time on RAW, I'm new, I'm eager to get around and I look at the various options I have. Hmmmmmmmm, I know ! I'll ask Stephanie Mcmahon to be my manager ! Nice piece of eyecandy at ring side while I beat the living tar out of opponents. Hmmmmmmmm, then I'll rest, oh and Stephanie has a match, I'll interfere in that and help her out.
I then press the start button to set my days plan into action...
After seeing the champ walk in, it goes to me walking into an empty locker room. Not here, therefore I lose a small amount of morale points with a big box saying "MISS" on the screen. Er...ok.
After the first match, it goes back to me in my locker room, doing a little excersising - a big box with "SUCCESS" pops up on screen - yay to me for resting without getting the shat knocked outta me !
Ooooooo, Steph's match, time for me to make my mark and maybe get her attention to be my manager after the earlier disappointment. And here I goooooo, huh ? Ok, 2 stupid security guards are blocking me and basically turn me back to the locker room. Ok, so no interfering then...
Then came my day at Smackdown. Hmmmmmmmmm, ok lets see if I can catch Steph again, I'll ask her to be my manager. Van Dam has a fight here, I'll encourage him before his match and get in his good books - never hurts to have a decent superstar on your side. Er, and I'll rest again after that before my match.
Once again I return to an empty locker room - no sign of Steph despite her being at the event. Oh well, the stupid rest thing will restore the morale points again. Oh well, off to see Van Dam.....Ok, or maybe not, as I enter an empty locker room once again. Morale points are restored again when I rest.
Now, this has gone on everytime until just now. While resting and generally looking good, arching my back in a bridge, showing my athletic prowess, Randy Orten decides to walk in and slam his boot into my plums - nice bloke.
It then became a little locker room brawl - I gave him a good dose of dead, finishing it off by cracking his poncy spine on my shoulder - ave it you smelly retard !
And thats pretty much it so far. So far, not so good.
Overall, I'd say this games strongest point is creating and using your own wrestlers as they end up more responsive - if not for that, this game would be pretty dire, despite its nice graphics.
