Microsoft, by way of announcing its Xbox strategy for Christmas in the UK, has revealed today that there will be no immediate axe taken to the retail price of the console before 2004.
Expectations were high following Nintendo's slashing of GameCube to £79.99 that Microsoft would follow with a price cut of its own prior to Christmas, especially since Nintendo's machine has begun to outsell the Xbox for the first time in months (2 to 1).
However, Microsoft has instead chosen to place its yuletide hopes in a bundle that features the console, Halo and Midtown Madness 3 and a voucher for two months' subscription to Xbox Live. This Xbox bundle will retail for £139.99, on shelves from today.
Industry watchers will be following Sony's, Nintendo's and Microsoft's Christmas fortunes in the UK closely, in particular the clash between GameCube and Xbox.
While Sony is in an unassailable position and likely to do very well with EyeToy this Christmas, Nintendo is looking stronger than it has for some time, sales likely to be driven further by the arrival of Mario Kart: Double Dash!! on November 14. Let the battle commence.
Hmmmm exciting.

It's PEDANTIC :-p.
I was the king of 1080, but Amped was way better in my book. I'll probably end up with both in the end, but Amped 2 I think is the more promising. Just liked its style that bit more.
I don't think MK will be quite so big as you think.
I can't stop ranting about it.
*keeerrrazzzy!*

No he said that Capcom are the only company keeping Nintendo interesting.
And they've released 7 games...
One was an original title but heavily flawed (P.N.03)
One was a fantastic original title (Viewtiful Joe)
Two were straight ports of a PS1 game (RE 2 and 3)
Two were updated graphics but the same gameplay as old PS1 games (RE0 and RE)
Now I love RE I really do... In fact I love all the above games. But if that is the reason why, to Alister, that the Cube is interesting I wonder why he is owning a cube.
There is just the one game within that lot that is truly worth buying a Gamecube for.
Henshi ago go baby.
I don't think he was slagging off the masterful game that is VJ.
Resident Evil/Zero + VJ are three of my best games, just I've exhausted the two Resis now.
Before you ask.

Viewtiful Joe is the first Capcom game to reach my top 5.
It is the ONLY really good original game they've released. Unless you count P.N.03 which I enjoyed a lot but is hardly a AAA game.
Ignoring VJ you're trying to say that pretty decent but "been there done that" Resident Evil sequels and the "fantastic" mickey mouse games are the titles that have kept you interested?
Face it you're fed up with the excitement from Nintendo supporters following some new found success and decided to mock the console bar the fact that Viewtiful Joe is great.
Trust me VJ is the start of a dominante Nintendo Christmas of fantastic games... not neccessarily with sales but this friday we have F Zero... and then Billy Hatcher, then Mario Kart, then 1080 etc... etc...
As for Amped I simply didn't like it and so therefore I am not even remotley willing to give the sequel a try. 1080 I enjoyed and will give the sequel a try... Although this is very judgemental I do believe 1080 will eat Amped and spit out the online remains. As for SSX... now that is just pure arcade fun... which beats any of this realistic style genre to a bloody pulp.
I've always prefered SSX to the more serious games.
Stop being perdantic... Nintendo are in a better position than Microsoft technically. Yes Microsoft have the money to advertise and a better relationship with the consumer... so could win... but technically Nintendo are the most promising. I mean you can throw Amped 2 and PGR 2 at me all you like but to Mario Kart these titles are but a lightning effected Toad... easily over run. It'll take a pretty good banana to make this smash hit slip up.
