Microsoft, by way of announcing its Xbox strategy for Christmas in the UK, has revealed today that there will be no immediate axe taken to the retail price of the console before 2004.
Expectations were high following Nintendo's slashing of GameCube to £79.99 that Microsoft would follow with a price cut of its own prior to Christmas, especially since Nintendo's machine has begun to outsell the Xbox for the first time in months (2 to 1).
However, Microsoft has instead chosen to place its yuletide hopes in a bundle that features the console, Halo and Midtown Madness 3 and a voucher for two months' subscription to Xbox Live. This Xbox bundle will retail for £139.99, on shelves from today.
Industry watchers will be following Sony's, Nintendo's and Microsoft's Christmas fortunes in the UK closely, in particular the clash between GameCube and Xbox.
While Sony is in an unassailable position and likely to do very well with EyeToy this Christmas, Nintendo is looking stronger than it has for some time, sales likely to be driven further by the arrival of Mario Kart: Double Dash!! on November 14. Let the battle commence.
Hmmmm exciting.
Due to the fact that JSR and Conker's Bad Fur Day are my 2 favourite games of all time it is almost certain this household will get a second X-box to go along with the 2 Gamecubes and the PS2...
Right off to bed now. Hope you chill Alister, I mean I was only debating what I felt was a ridiculous claim that Capcom made more interesting games for the Cube. There was no need to get hostile and overreact in such a way.
Hope they do another.
> Yes, I still love my DC. JSR was one of my favourite games ever.
Yeah same here... in fact I'd go as far to say it is. I'd love to own JSRF... I'm starting to get into it more whenever I borrow the game off of my friend.
I may even get the GBA version though I've heard bad things.
Was in an arcade on Sunday night and it had a Sega machine that had the VMU link up thing. Ferrari F355 Challenge I think it was.
> Yes oh what a pi*s funny joke, oh ha ha ha...
Had a bad day by chance?
> Sega always were sooo much better anyway...
They haven't done anything recently bar Monkey Ball that has really set my world alight.
But the Dreamcast is the only pure ARCADE console I can think of.
And for that I salute it.
Shame my Mother threw it down the stairs and broke it.
Jet Set RADIOOOOO!
Now that's another pure fantastic original game I've never really played the likes before to go along side Viewtiful Joe.
> RESIDENT F**KING EVIL! Are you completely blind? How many times do I
> have to say this was the reason I got my Cube?
You... Are... Joking.
A 10 year old series?
Please tell me you are joking.
I mean I love Resident Evil...
But...
well...
I'm lost for words.
Think I have to go to bed in pure shock at what you just said.
Calm down Ali. you'll hurt yourself.
Oh what a superb game. VJ also reminds me of a strange side scrolling jumping shooter I played... dunno why. Can't remember the name but I loved that too.
I will agree VJ is a king in the gaming fronts. I still don't believe it beats Metroid, Mario Sunshine or Zelda though.
It is hardly the best game on the cube.
