As we seem to have a thread for most of the big games, I thought we may as well have one for this behemoth of a game - so if you have any ideas, favourite ways to play the game or just want to pass comment on what already appears to be a fantastic and absorbing game - please post here.
If you want to discuss the plot or other aspects of the storyline - remember to use the
first off...I'm liking the combat system now - no definite turn based combat? Action seems to be constant even though you have to select your moves. Brilliant?
I'm desperately poor, I have around 300 gil (I used most of it on upgrades) and I only really have level 6 equipment.
Where's the best place I can grind stuffs to sell or use to upgrade?

I did this too, but I knew what they were as WH has talked of nothing else, I just wanted to 'have a go'...
Done up to Mission 14 last night so can now move about a little quicker. Will try to play for a couple of hours tonight to progress the story a little.
Waste of 30 seconds :P
To reply to Dis.
As a note I'm almost at full Crystarium for chars now, and am taking down Adamantoise's with ease (finally). All I can say is triple roles are bloody effective. SYN/SYN/SYN gets everyone buffed damn quick, and because you have 3 SYN's the buffs stay up for ages. The same with triple SAB's, the debuffs hit almost 100% so all buffs can be up in one round if timed right.
RAV/RAV/RAV 'til staggered and then fill chain up to 999%, then go COM/COM/COM...... just obliterates anything.
Still only got 2 Ulitmate Weapon's (Fang and Light), so the treasure trophy is going to take a loooooooooong time.
The last boss of C10 though? Ouch... took some time :P Without any of the Fortisols it took a bit of RNG luck.
Whenever I get the chance, I use Snow/Sazh/Hope as:
SEN/SYN/SYN - I get up haste and protect/shell then, if I'm ok on health and there's only one or maybe two guys up:
RAV/RAV/RAV - Blitz up my combo meter in one or two turns, then:
COM/COM/RAV - max out the damage whilst I can
For healing I'm usually fine to turn to:
SEN/RAV/MED
Only on boss battles do I resort to combat clinic.
If there's more than one guy up, I usually use:
SEN/COM/RAV or COM/RAV/RAV
To be honest, now I'm out of chapter 10, I'm blasting through everything. My issues were coming from me being a newb and not realising I could change Lightning out.

You will find it very hard to do all the missions mate as .....
(big spoiler game wise, not story wise)
[SPOILER]
They get very very hard, and you will need the extra boost of the 10th grade of the crystarium, which only becomes available post game/final boss.
Struggling on boss battles really isn't that uncommon on FF13. It has one of the harder scalings and bosses of the FF series.
A couple of musts when you get to choose your team paradigm wise:
Relentless Assualt: RAV/COM/RAV
Combat Clinic: MED/SEN/MED
"Depends": any*/SAB/SYN
Real handy. The party set up is quite important but I find that Ligh/Fang/Hope is the best for the most part. Brilliant mix of roles and strengths, no real weaknesses.
To answer your spoiler questions...
[SPOILER]
Star level equipment needs a catalyst to upgrade. There is a specific items required for each grade of item, but the grade is not made obvious in game. Generally anything that has "catalyst" as a description, keep it. Then go back into the upgrade screen for a star item and if you have the right item, it will be useable.
You only need 1 catalyst for each item in game, so no chance of going wrong. If it is useable, then it's the right item. No chance of going wrong.
I would finish Chapter 10, then follow my advice listed a couple of responses below.
Reading below you are struggling in Chapter 10, i have to say that i never really did any more battles than thrown at you and just spent my CP evenly across all roles. The green slime things, attack them first, they morph after 15 seconds i guess, then they become a tad harder.
My team are able to take out a smaller green slime thing in one attack, so i just focus on them first. If your still really struggling, maybe battle some more to gain some CP and get stronger.
Also what roles are you using? And who?
This is starting to become a real drag :( what's the best way to deal with those god damn green ooze things? They just rape me before I get a chance.
Also, I seem to be taking insane levels of damage, I can survive one turn without a medic but trying two is near suicide.
