(the PS2 train Simulator story threw me off for a bit :) )
But what if...
The X-Box were to be released before Christmas (say October) this year, with a price tag of 150.00 quid...
and to have a full compliment of games avalible at launch?
Would anyone here change their minds and pick up the box?
Would anyone take another look at the new machine?
Or would you stick with what you've got... keeping with the PS2 or waiting for the GC?
IMO the best game ever, CHampionship manager.

yep ... about 500 quid.
NO! U make the mistake of taking the Xbox specs say (700MHz) and looking for a PC with that many MHz and the same kind of video card.
This does not work. My DC is 300MHZ... my computer is far more, but no game runs as smooth as Sould Calibur. The reason is 2 fold:
1) Games for PC have to be able to run on an infinite variation oin configuaritions of PCs. This means that games on a 1GHz PC would run at a far lower speed to allow worse spec PCs to play them. Games on consoles are designed for one particular system, and hence can squeeze every last drop from a console, without the question "will it work?"
2) Although PC architecture can be modelled to play games well (eg Xbox, DC), normal PCs are not so well designed in this respect.
Anyway, there is more.... but just try getting Soul Calibur graphics on your 1GHz PC... u could if you wrote it just for your PC config... but PC games are universally adaptable.
NiGHTS!
Now someone is going to come back and say "I hate MS's comercialism"... but what did sony do? They found a money making idea with ninty and then made it real.
Again, who cares. I couldn't care less that MS will make a huuuugggeeeeee loss as turbo said. Sega made a loss so big they've had to completely restructure- but doesn't stop me loving my DC games.
One thig it all comes down to- the games. All the consoles have good enough specs to make great games. However, only a few have truel exclusive AAA titles.
PS2 IS losing many of its exclusives... the only reason they were there to start with is because:
1) PSX was the only big market competitor
2) PSX was too different to N64 to port.
Now PS2 HAS competition... and the competition have used well known dev systems (Direct X for example), to allow a quicker development cycle.
The one thing that the PS2 does have is a big user base- and it will undoubtedly keep this. The question is will people have more than one console in the future? (Places like japan are traditionally one console countries)

Yes, yes I do. Oh... right. Still, if money isn't the issue... please get one.

Though they are never the best in any of their fields...
Jacks of all trades huh?
