(the PS2 train Simulator story threw me off for a bit :) )
But what if...
The X-Box were to be released before Christmas (say October) this year, with a price tag of 150.00 quid...
and to have a full compliment of games avalible at launch?
Would anyone here change their minds and pick up the box?
Would anyone take another look at the new machine?
Or would you stick with what you've got... keeping with the PS2 or waiting for the GC?

Apparently, MGS2 does 20M as well.
A GeForce 3 on its own isn't good enough.
The Gamecube is more powerful than the PS2.
It's got a years worth of newer, more efficient technology.
And the Xbox supposed to be even more powerful.
BUT like Nights rightly said, power in such small differences like this doesn't make or break the console.
I reckon that brilliant EXCLUSIVE games do.
And most of Sony's best titles WILL be appearing on other machines too.
That's my "why not the PS2" theory anyway.

"The Xbox is based on PC archiecture. PCs aren't designed to play games. Yes, I have read about this. "
Errrr... so the DC couldn';t play games well? errrrr...
PCs were not made to play games. Correct. But the architecture can be adapted so that they play games very well. Like the DC. It is based on PC architecture. So is the Xbox. So?
"Why spend a further £300 on an Xbox when I've got far too many good games on the PS2, including MGS2. "
Actually I agreed with your point, but was just pointing out to those that thiink the xbox has no good games that it actually has some great exclusives.
"They have dominated the market and virtually force people to use their software. I don't like being told what to do.
Windows is slow, bulky, ugly, unreliable and insecure. Linux is neither of those thing. Linux is much much better and doesn't really require THAT much knowledge. Win ME crashes regularly. Their excuse? It's home version, get the proffesional one. Excuse me? THAT's and EXCUSE? Quite frankley, that sickens me. Win ME, like every other Windows, is a faulty product. Inexcusable. "
I agree, Microsoft are unwilling to build a new OS from scratch, meaning windows will alway be "bad". However, if Linux was soooo accessible and soooo much better, then why do PCs not come with it, and why do people not buy it. You have said that you have a Windows OS (although I believe you are getting linux?). Either way, people like windows. It is easy. All their friends have it so they can interchange data. It supports more hardware.
BUT! Crucially, you are basing you choice for not getting an xbox on the fact that you do not like Microsoft. This is absurd, and biased. fullstop.
"I didn't know about the PS2 crashes. It wasn't featured in the Upwire. "
Like I said, read my "chat" topic about what I hate on the forums. PS2 is apauling when it comes to crashing. Here is PART of that topic (which has loads of things about the xbox):
NiGHTS said in another topic:
"So what is the big thing about the xbox? Or do you all forget that almost every release game for the PS2 crashed at a show a couple of weeks before the console's release. Why do people forget this: becuase the gaming press almost ignored it. When the Xbox crashes ONCE (ulike the many times the PS2 did), then people make a huige thing of it. In all likelyhood, every console has crashed or shown glitches during games shows- here are the ones I remember:
PS2: Almost every release game and almsot every mainscreen demo crashed. So much so that the mainscreen demos were abandonned and the console capsules had holes drilled in them to allow the reset button to be pressed- they even employed people just to reset crashed machines. This occurred 2 weeks before the PS2's launch in japan, at Sony's big PS2 launch show.
Gamecube: Metroid and many others had jerky, unsmooth graphics at E3. One game crashed on its debue too.
Xbox: ONE mainscreen demo, which was came 30mins into a presentation, crashed... once. It was fine after that. The rest of the show was excellent, but those Sony biased fans ignore all of that.
DC: Oddly enough, the Windows powered box never crashed to my knowledge- although some game pod demos probably might have had some glitches due to people playing them for hours on end.
PSX: this had several crashes, but people were so wowed by Tekken that they ignored these.
So you see, the Xbox comes out almost on top when it comes to reliability."
So turbo, it is interesting to see that you talk loads about ONE demo crashing ONCE at the Xbox show... but you haven't even heard about the PS2's aweful showing just before release. Reason: The press were so into the PS2 they neglected all the crashes in the show and praised it! When the Xbox crashes ONCE then people make a big thing. Now you see why the Xbox is nothing like a PC in terms of reliablity?
Turbo said: "6) I'd have prefered it with a tower.
Errr... it's
> not a PC
It nearly is."
Another extract from my tpoic in chat (which you really shoudl read:
NiGHTS! said: "And the DC used Windows CE for some games. Did anyone notice? Its no like it has a windows loading screen. If anything, the PS2 is more like a PC: It has a number of peripheral addons such as HDD and modem, the OS takes time to load etc.
Anyway, let's say the Xbox is PC beause it used PC architecure. So what? The DC uses PC architecture. It has GREAT games, NO crashes, and despite that it uses windows for some games... the Xbox does not use windows... it uses Direct X... which means that the games directly control the hardware without the need for an OS- which is an ingeneous system that will allow some aesome games.
So what is the big thing about the xbox? Or do you all forget that almost every release game for the PS2 crashed at a show a couple of weeks before the console's release. Why do people forget this: becuase the gaming press almost ignored it."
So what if it is a PC in terms of architecture? It has already got some great games.
"Technically, it still suffers from bandwidth bottlenecks. Loads of experts predict it won't have much more graphical power than the PS2.
BTW I wasn't referring to the games. Many do look promising, but not for me really. I don't like many PC games. Flight sims? Yes. RTS? Red Alert 2, that's it. Anything else? No. "
Well, the post you were replying to says something about this: "Good point- if the games don't appeal to you then what is the bother. However, as a PS2 owner you must be looking forward to MGS2? Well, that's on Xbox. Also, exclusive games include DOA3, Munche's Exodus and Halo. In addition there are games like project gotham- the sequal to MSR. It will probably have a range of games as good as a PS2, but as I said this is your choice. "
MS are not releasing flight sims. They are doing the Xbox as a console, and as such have employed some of the best people in the industry to make a strategy (J allard has been in the games industry since before Sony... well before sony).
Before you answer please read the topic in chat- it has far more added stuff than is shown below.
