Hi there!

I've avoided buying a games machine for a long time due to various commitments, but I'm now in a position to join the gaming community. I'm going to get myself a PS2 and was wondering if anyone had any advice?

There seem to be many deals out there, but where's the best place for me to buy my console? Also, what do I need to get myself started? And finally, what games do people recommend for a beginner? I'm into football in a big way and I've been told PES3 is the best one to go for - do you agree? Also can anyone recommend good sports and driving games as these have been the kind of games I've enjoyed playing on my freind's consoles. Oh, and any good shoot-em-up games?

Any advice would be much appreciated
Cheers

Probably not.

Not really - I'd rather the game played well.

They're okay - I've not played meny.

Eh? Well, anything's an improvement on my ZX Spectrum.

Yeah, crap games are no good to me.

I wouldn't really be spending much time looking at the controller.

Stupid? Thanks for that. The reason I posted this on a PS2 forum was because that's what my original question was about - the PS2! Quite sensible, I thought!?

Thanks anyway

ARgh the stench of hypocrisy! The fanboy's best defense is to accuse others of being a fanboy.

I've just looked at the E3 list for this year, and both the X-box and Gamecube line-ups are totally overshadowed by the massive list of games due for the PS2. Our friend here is new to gaming, so surely the best supported console is the best choice? But noooo.... according to you guys games released for it are 'pathetic'.. after all this Christmas the X-box is due to see a game that has been out on the PS2 for years, so it's obviously better :-P

For what its worth, in terms of the footballing game arguement, ill put my support behind Pro Evo 3. Still the only game i play on more than anything else, which has been the way with every game in the series.

Easily better than any of PS2's other footballing offerings.

Only timesplitters interests me from that little lot too.

Anyway my bad for some reason i thought it was just EA Sports games that didn't appear on the xbox

Timesplitters 3, Burnout 3, Battlefield 1942 etc etc

It's not just Sports games that EA are gonna be taking online.

For the topic creator I can only give you my view on things and my experiences.

Personally i like turn based and strategy RPG's and there's no other console that suits those needs than the PS2. This is one area where it does have alot of great exclusives and is well worth a purchase just for this genre alone. Other than that then i'd suggest an Xbox especially if you're not going to import. The european releases on the PS2 are poor compared to the stuff america and japan gets of course that may be the case on the cube and xbox as well but as i don't bother with those consoles i wouldn't know.

The only games from EA i'd want to play online are Madden and MVP Baseball both of which don't have a big enough fanbase over in Europe to warrant a purchase just for online alone.

What else is there? Fifa? HAH give me PES anyday.

Played TIF2004 for most of yesterday and it just doesn't appeal to me, it's better than Fifa (but then stuff on the commodore 64 is better then the crap EA brings out) but just doesn't have the magic and easy flow that PES has. I'll definitly be sticking to the PES series again this year especially now it's online

Hmm, touched a nerve then.

Well what I've said is true - from your posts all that can be said is that you're a keen supporter of the PS2, up to the point of becoming obviously biased.

And you can't really judge me based on comments here, so you're not really in a position to say whether I'm pathetic, blah blah waffling etc.
You also have no idea if I am "useful" or not, so there aren't really any grounds for you to base your statement from. Of course, having said that, there is plenty of time for myself to learn from my mistakes, while you on the other hand, seem to have much less.

Using the quote really shows there is no true argument to what I said. And besides, why does it matter so much if you are a Sonyphile?

Buh, good luck with that pad.

Tried playing Fifa with it and is odd using them springy and angled buttons.

Oh well, am used to playing with the PS pad.

But alas, unless Microsoft advertise PES3/4 (Whatever version the Xbox gets) it still wont rake in the figures like Fifa '97 in a new box, every year "Wiv noo off da boll control111```F122five"
