I've avoided buying a games machine for a long time due to various commitments, but I'm now in a position to join the gaming community. I'm going to get myself a PS2 and was wondering if anyone had any advice?
There seem to be many deals out there, but where's the best place for me to buy my console? Also, what do I need to get myself started? And finally, what games do people recommend for a beginner? I'm into football in a big way and I've been told PES3 is the best one to go for - do you agree? Also can anyone recommend good sports and driving games as these have been the kind of games I've enjoyed playing on my freind's consoles. Oh, and any good shoot-em-up games?
Any advice would be much appreciated
Cheers

Or it could be that you're a blatant Sonyphile
You ask what is better: FIFA or PES3. Well, I would choose PES3 by far. It has got better graphics, much better gameplay, more modes, more options, more everything. The only bad thing about PES3 is that it doesnt have as many players and clubs. I mean that FIFA has got licenses. It has got an inmense number of players, as it has also got nearly all the teams.
However, PES3 focuses on national teams, and not much on clubs though.

It's all relative.

FM- Minus 3 billion points.
I tut. You're only backing what you touted to be a possible "Pes beater" a while back, Online play on TIF? Bah.
We all know PES3 is the best football game for PS2, and online play for FIFA doesn't improve it as its hardly a game. No fun, not fluid.
TIF is btter than Fifa, but not PES, not by a long shot.

Thank you, i think.

*PES3 i think you meant to say.
I would definately get PES3, its the best football game out. I would say Fifa is more complete though because PES3 cant even get the right names of the clubs.
This thread is full of them... ask yourself why all these people are in the PS2 forum advising people to buy an X-box. (I especially liked the 'over-priced' comment.)
You can't go wrong with a PS2 (except in the eyes of people who take themselves way too seriously) especially as you say this is what all your mates have. But do yourself a favour and find a better forum to ask advice on, there are good people here but they're outnumbered by the idiots.
I would 70% go with the Xbox and 30% go with the PS2, because they still have GTA : San Andreas as a decent exclusive. Answer som e of my 'Ever so affective' questions and i'll tell you which console is best for you :
Are you planning to go online with your console (if so, sod the PS2 and get an Xbox)?
Does it really bother you whether you have good graphics or not?
Do you love FPS (Shooting games)?
Do you like a console thats a bit 'Up-to-date'?
Do you hate consoles that have so many crap games and only a few good games?
As you can see, these are all biased questions (im like that you see). One more thing you should know :
If a game came out and you really wanted it (and it was on the PS2 and Xbox) would you get it on the PS2 which has a dull-looking controller (but comfortable) or would you get it on the Xbox which has (well, now it does) a small, comfortable (but only best when playing FPS) and interesting controller? AND let me just remind you that the Xbox will have much better graphics.
At the end of the day, its your decision. Bit stupid to post this topic in the PS2 forum because everyones obviously gonna say the PS2s better but hey!
Try doing a similar topic in the General Chat forum, or maybe not.....
> easiest to get hold of and they will work with future versions.
That's what I figured. I know more people with PS2s as well... borrowing games rather than buying is gonna help my not-so-deep pockets.

Yeah, I'd heard a lot of good things about Dawson - shame about his injury.

Cardiff fans - rough? I'm affraid I don't know what you're talking about(!)
Ha ha! I think the game you're talking about was 3 seasons ago. It was a f***ing nutty day in Cardiff - lots of mini riots all over town! There seems to be a lot of 'respect' between the two sets of 'fans' since that day. I've yet to see so many nutters in one place than I did outside certain pubs in Cardiff that day. Crazy days!

Are they different enough to get enjoyment out of them both?
Any other game recommendations?

Defineltely 100% Playstation 2. PS2 have the most common games - easiest to get hold of and they will work with future versions.

Thankyou.

No, he and Michael Dawson will be the next youngsters to be sold to mid table Premiership clubs.
I watched your lads down at

Yeh - I heard that as a Welsh joke. I had a run-in with some of the rough Cardiff fans once when they played Millwall. D'oh. I wasn't stupid enough to go to the match, mind, I was in Cardiff at the station when they had their little riot.
Reid was good, but not

Yeh, well David Johnson is better now, so he'll be banging in the goal.

Yeh - you can always talk sport on the sport forum.

I prefer FIFA, but most people prefer PES. Both are good - PS3 is probably
more complete though.
