Hands up how many Nintendo fans tried to s**g off the PS2 for only having 4Mb of embedded VRAM for the Graphics synthesiser chip. Come on now don't be shy, oh well all of you may be interested enough to here that in an official interview on Gamespot ATI's VP of engineering announced that the Gamecube only has 3Mb of embedded VRAM, and it is no where near as fast as the PS2's DRDRAM, which runs at 800mghz and allows a much higher bandwidth in and out of the chip!!
Shame on you all, now apologize to Bonus, then go read the full interview at the address below!!

No matter how Ninty dress it up they are still sacrificing storage and cost AGAIN over their bloody loading times. It cost them last time and it'll cost them again.
To properly answer Er-no's comment on the PS2, in the PS2 there are two "Vector Units" within the emotion engine, VU0 and VU1. VU0 handles all of the physics whilst VU1 compiles the image you see on the screen not the Graphics Synthesiser!!! The VU1 creates a compressed Data Sheet (or something like that) which the GS then decodes and adds the special graphical effects such as Anti-aliasing etc. So it doesn't need that much Ram. It also has a bandwidth of 42Gb\sec to store the data in rather than in RAM itself!!
PS2.....4VRAM - 1.5VRAM: 2.5 VRAM for playing
GC......3VRAM - 0.000VRAM: 3.0VRAM for playing
ssshhhhh!
SO WHAT!
