Everybody:

You and I in a little toy shop
Buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got.
Set them free at the break of dawn
'Til one by one, they were gone.
Back at base, bugs in the software
Flash the message, Something's out there.
Floating in the summer sky.
99 red balloons go by.

Donkey Konga is set to hit European shores this Christmas, along with Pikmin 2, Paper Mario 2 and Metroid Prime 2. UK gamers are also treated to the long over due release of Animal Crossing and the GBA titles Leaf Green and Fire Red.

Nintendo's childish image may save a potentially bad Christmas. Sony's flagship release is GTA:SA and Microsoft's is of course Halo 2. These are the sequels to the games that single handidly sold the respective consoles. Nintendo are relying on a unique Mario outing and the more hardcore favourite Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. A multiplayer may increase popularity but nit enough to triumph over the 2 AAA titles for the X-box and PS2.

Lucky for Nintendo both the games with Halo 2's online capabilities and GTA 5's horrific content the games are soley aimed at 15 plus (even if it is illegal). The children and parent buying population will turn to Nintendo with Pikmin 2, Donkey Konga, Zelda: Four Swords and Paper Mario 2... games with a very childish appeal.

So Christmas may not be a disaster but who cares? I am not bothered that Mario's paper outing may not impact on the charts. As a Nintendo fan this Christmas is looking like a lot of fun. No real arty games or over the top movie style software... just pure fun. Come Christmas day I'll be beating off to 99 red balloons, turning into paper aeroplanes and controlling 4 little green elves across the screen.

This is why I'm a Nintendo fan

Stranger In Paradise you really do make me laugh. A lot. Sales figures mean nothing. The game could be absolute rubbish and if you stick a Shrek or FIFA logo on it, it will probably end up making number one. I'm not denying that Halo 2 and GTA will be good games and classics in some peoples' eyes (not mine) but Nintendo release more entertaining and memorable experiences that need not involve blood and violence. Paper Mario, Donkey Konga, Pikmin 2 they've all been recieving great reviews from magazines and websites and while they probably won't have too much of an impact on the charts, they will be loved by gamers who look for something different and quality. If the person who buys the game loves it then what the hell does sale figures matter anyway. And for all you know the likes of Halo 2 and GTA could be average games. They're not even out yet anywhere. Think before you say stuff.

Grow up you s**t...

Read the original post? Go on!!! Read it. Never once did I say Nintendo would wipe the floor this Christmas, in fact the point of the post was to simply say as a Nintendo fan I'm going to seriously enjoy Christmas because the games look fun.

My argument is simple, without Resident Evil 4 Nintendo cannot stand up against Halo 2, Doom 3, GTA 5 and GT 4 etc... but if they look at the children market and concentrate on that area... then they'll be alright. All I'm saying is that by going for a different market they avoid suffering... who knows maybe Metroid Prime 2 will do well maybe not.

Who cares?

This post is about enjoying games and not about sales figures, there'll be one elsewhere about that so why are you saying "the sales figures will prove my point"??? What point is that? That Nintendo don't have mass market appeal and Sony do???

Why give the guy a biscuit.

As for E3 and the DS I'm afraid the developers pretty much HAVE to use the touch screen it is something they can't really avoid. SEGA have used the touch screen to be rubbed to control the character on the other screen, Namco have used the screen to draw characters and then put pellets down to create a route...

Two major third parties showing a great way of using the touch screen. There is more, Namco did several "plan a route" demo's. But the thing is Nintendo are having 20 titles ready for next year all of which use the two screens and touch screen to different effects. Also Capcom, Squaresoft, SEGA and even Konami (with winning eleven, Castlevania and Boktai) have all confirmed titles... just we don't know how they work.

So maybe, after you've looked at the third party offerings on the DS, you can comment on what they aren't or are doing. In the meantime just shut up.

Tell you what, let's come back to this post Christmas and see what the sales figures are.

You have until then to start drafting your apology, because the only way what I have said will not be true is if Sony and MS are wiped from the face of the earth.

I have constantly seen Dringo's hopelessly optimistic ramblings, and for the most part they are just that - optimistic, and about as far detached from reality as a Party Political Broadcast.

Ah so it's bigger...

I thought it was just casual gamers who felt happy if a sequel is "bigger".

+ fleshed out multiplayer and online modes and alledgedly Halo could fit into part of one of Halo 2's levels.

So Halo 2 appears to be 'slightly' bigger and more advanced than the original.

Zelda is a very unique game series, unlike Halo Zelda CAN go on forever as the game's style and idea can change. Ocarina of Time was a quest, MAjora's Mask was a depressing end of the world type multiple day game, Wind Waker was a very funny sailing type adventure whilst this one is looking like a war. Halo can go from shooting, shooting online too... shooting online with better graphics on the X-box 2. The new Zelda looks stunning and far more adult with a darker story. Wind Waker was criticised on these forums for not being "serious" enough.

Plus all of you were raving about Windwakers cel like
> graphics being the future a year back, now you all do a U turn.

No lots of us agree the expressionist style used in the Wind Waker was great and I would love to have seen the WW2 use the same graphics. But we all, deep down, knew that if Nintendo want the game to sell as well as Ocarina they'll need to create a darker story. And they have.

> Still, as always, the after Christmas sales figures will do my
> talking for me, they did last year....

Last year Nintendo's sales rose 80% overtaking the X-box's sales for the same period. This year Microsoft will probably do better but then what's that got to do with anything?

The fact is Donkey Konga, Pikmin 2, Paper Mario 2 and Animal Crossing doesn't have a big mass market appeal. They are technically wonderful games but don't have the appeal of GTA and Halo. So naturally they won't light up the charts but you'll see them getting wonderful reviews left right and centre. Watch out for Metroid Prime 2 mind.

The movie world is improving. Suddenly disgraceful films like Catwoman and Thunderbirds bomb at the box office whilst unknown titles like Pirates of the Caribbean do amazingly well. Why? Because the first 2 are crap.

Lets hope the Game industry follows.

How did you manage to come to that conclusion? Nintendo have obviously tried to impliment new gameplay aspects, even this early on (horseback swordplay), and as it is, it looks superb. What did you expect? Online play?

Don't be such an idiot. Thousands of gamers wet themselves over Zelda (people crying at E3 proof enough for you?) and probably more so than Halo 2, yet you're trying to convince people that it wasn't impressive?

Ha.
