Mainly as Machie and I seem to spend half the time on the WLT chatting about Doctor Who...

Here's my current favourites;

Best Classic Episode: Genesis of the Daleks (Tom Baker)

Best Classic Doctor: Late 7th Doctor - when the stories got darker and the character really developed into something more than just a Timelord.

Best DVD: The Invasion

Best New Doctor Who Episode: Army of Ghosts / Doomsday

I hope so. It would be a shame to lose it again especially as it's doing so well.

Whoever they find to be the Doctor I hope he stays on for atleast 4 years, preferably 7 if he's real good.

As for the writing, well I dont know if they'll have trouble finding someone to replace Russell but then you do enjoy those Dr Who books so I guess there are other people writing good Dr Who.

If it wasn't in The Sun I'd be more inclined to believe it!

I wouldn't be surprised if Davis left when Tennent goes, but I'd have thought the BBC itself would appoint someone else in his place to keep the show going, especially considering the viewing figures.

It would be more likely that the show would be taking a long break before coming back.

Do you think there's any truth to this? Maybe Russell would have more time if he didn't insist on doing so many spin offs =/

Well atleast Garin will be happy =(

This week's episode has the Garin seal of approval. :P

Earthshock is on DVD, plus The Visitation, The Five Doctors, Resurection of the Daleks (not the best Dalek story) and the Caves of Androzani (last Davison story and very, very good).

Worth getting the Earthshock DVD for the full story, plus it's a pretty good Cyberman story too, despite having yet another celebrity cameo!

He pretty much got on everyone's nerves, whiney little kid. In retrospect he wasn't that bad and it was probably just the character.

DVD coming out soon: The Time Warrior, a Pertwee Sontaran story and also the first Sarah Jane one (and first Sontaran one too).

Davis wanted that aspect of the Doctor 'the last of his kind' to drive the character.

The whole 'no other Timelords' does kind of mean that he's saying Romana is dead too, though. Oh, and Leela, who (according to the New Adventures) was working on Gallifrey with K9 (Mark II, I believe). If they bought Romana back (Maybe she went to E-Space) it would be cool. She was the only companion who could match the Doctor for wit and brainpower and became President of Gallifrey too.

Not all the companions were human, either. But I think Davis wants to keep them human because it grounds the series a bit.

Yes I was just reading about it (I also read a bit about the character on some gayicon site :S). I'd really like to watch it, I mentioned before I dont think I've seen any episodes of his. Are there any on DVD yet? You said you enjoy some of his episodes.

I can only ever find Tom Baker torrents, I grew up with Sylvester and Colin I watched a lot on umm was it UK Gold? I really enjoyed that because I would be up late and although not behind a sofa I could hide in my bed heh. (this was only a few years ago)

So what happened? Why viewer pressure? Didnt they like the character?

My favourite classic Dr Who episode is probably 'A Fix with Sontarans' ;) heh okay maybe not but I did enjoy the first Sontaran episode. I didnt know there were others (2 more Tom Baker stories), they should bring them back and keep the look as they were. They look real scary to me. I guess they wont be, having borrowed much of the look for those Judoon.

I know it's a bit late because we talked about it awhile ago (where's Carlos? he knew a lot). But was there a reason why they decided to destroy Gallifrey and Skaro? Oh hangon (just reading on Wiki), they werent destroyed in a classic story this is new Russell T. Davies doing, isn't it? Why would Russell want to destroy them both =S it seems a bit much and certainly limits the Dr Who stories a bit. Makes me think of Superman and Krypton.

Of course you could always pretend to kill off a race and bring it back with a "actually there was one left" but when you destroy planets you can't really bring them back =/ hmm but then I guess the planets dont matter, it's the races. Maybe there are other Timelords that survived apart from the Doctor and the Master. Maybe there will be a new Skaro and Gallifrey. I dont really know a lot about the Time Lords and Gallifrey but I wouldnt like to think that every single one of them could be killed by the daleks.

Really good episode, actually. A lot different. But it's part 1 of a 2 parter (the second part looking even more interesting)

Did you find out about Adric yet, Machie? (the Earthshock story). That was pressure from viewers too which led to that story.

It couldnt have been that bad as Garin would have come in here and voiced his disappointment.

I'm not in the mood to watch it, so I think I'll watch this new DVD of Porco Rosso we got the other day. I hope the voices are better than the Laputa dub.
