Reader of religous texts/philosopher the next?

I lead a life that is correct for me, that's the best I can do.
I listen to heavy metal/rap/jazz/classical and I enjoy each one of them.
I read religious texts to try and understand all of the options out there.
One thing has become clear from reading this thread:
Whether you are a Christian, Jehova, Buddhist - You all believe in the existence of a higher deity and live your life in (what you consider to be) a righteous way.

THAT is the only thing that matters, that you lead a life that doesn't cause misery and suffering and pain to others.
That is what I percieve to be the benefit of religion, people that want to lead a calm and peaceful life.

I'm not religous myself.
I've been to church (Christian) to see if it held anything for me, I've sat and talked to Jehova Witness to try and understand their message, I've read Tibetan Book of The Dead (out of all of the religions I think Buddhism has got it right for my view of the world.)
I've tried to read The Koran, but that just lost me.

My only opinion on this subject is this:
Believe what is right for you, but do not persecute anyone else for their beliefs.
Who says your version is the right one?
It might be The Catholics, it might be The Seventh Day Adventists..could be any of them, we just don't know yet.

I'm considering all the options, covering my bets with the lot.

my parents never forced me with anything. Of course when i was verry little i had no say and ate whatver my parents gave me. but when we are little we are not aware of the world around us so u cant say aanything really about that. since i can remember i have always chosen not to eat meat becasue i have thought on my own accord that it is wrong. I remember during my early years in school that i always told the people in the school canteen to give me non-meat food.

I'm not exaggerating anything. I have never had meat. THat includes things like gelatine as well.

As a Christian, how about I tell you how my life has changed since becoming one.

I am not a lot more relaxed.

I don't worry about stupid things like homework.

I try to be a better person overall. If someone was being insulted by others, I used to join in. Now I try to stick up for them. Sometimes-as long as it's not about 7 bullies. {:)

When I ask God something-he ALWAYS seems to respond! I even asked God to help me find my tennis racket which I'd searched the whole house for. A few seconds later-I found it.

I asked God for help in my SATS. I did very well in English and Maths, getting level 7's.

One night me and some other christians stood in a line with our hands held out, while a priest called for God's presence in the room.
Some people began to cry, others fell over, and my hands were tingling, and my legs were trembling. I could feel God's presence.

Overall, my life has become a lot better. But it's not easy-trust me on that.

Also, can I add, I respect all your opinions. I have nothing against Jehovah's Witnesses, and if one of them comes to the door or something, I don't insult them like some people do.
And can I also thank you lot for respecting my opinion. I've had many people dismiss my faith, and take the mickey out of me for it. But this topic has been civilised and friendly.

Thanks for reading, Ant.

Lol, the first one I copied from Red Dwarf: Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers

Second one is my own and is probably the most truthful.

So what you are saying is that as a child your parents wouldn't let you have meat therefore your parents must be vegetarians. If you are not exaggerating this is harsh that you have never tried meat. No parents can force their beliefs on young people they should be allowed to try meat etc.. then make their own decision.

I'm sorry but if the case this is bang out of order.

I'm a Jehovah's Witness so I strongly believe in the bible, so I am going to say a few things about some of the subjects in this topic. What I will say is going to be based on the bible, and all Jehovah's Witnesses Believe in this.

Vegetarianism:- The bible specifically says that Adam and Eve (Which I believe in) only ate fruit, but after the flood of Noah's day, all the plants had been destroyed, so God told Noah that he could also eat Meat of animals, as long as it is unblead. That means that any meat which has blood on it is wrong, because blood represents the life force that God has given us. This is also the reason why we do not have blood transfusions, because the Apostle Paul told the Christians in the first century to keep abstaining from blood.

Alcohol and Drugs:- In the Bible, Paul told Timothy in one of his letters that a little wine was good for you. Jesus' first miracle was turning water into "the finest wine" Matthew said. This indicates that Alcohol is ok in moderation, because Paul said that we should always be "of sound mind" and have "our full thinking capacity" which shows that we need to be aware of all our actions, and keep control of them. This means that we wouldn't use drugs that would influence us to do things that we would not do in sound mind.

God is Eternal:- We strongly believe that God created the Earth and He is called Jehovah. The bible specifically says that God is an immortal spirit, that had no creator. It is hard for us to comprehend that God, and time had no beginning. The reason we cant understand that is because we are imperfect, and we cannot understand everything, only if we were perfect, would we even begin to be able to comprehend. To help you think about it this way, none of us want to die, we want to be alive forever, that was the way we were created by God. so if we can understand living forever, and not dieing, then it is the same, only in reverse, that God never started.

There is a Devil:- The Bible states that there is a spirit creature, that was created by God that grew jealous of the glory that God was given by Adam and Eve. He then influenced Eve to rebel against God, and worship him, rather than God. He even influenced other perfect angels to rebel against god, which are called demons. The bible calls the angle who rebelled, Satan and Devil, which means Slanderer and resister, because is instigated the lie, by saying to Eve that God was holding something back from them. He is called resistor because he decided to oppose God.

Hell:- This is the perfect thing to follow on from the Devil. Did you know that nowhere in the bible does it say that Hell exists. Guess what, it also doesn't say that we will go there when die if we are bad. Hey The bible also doesn’t say that we will go to Heaven if we are good! The bible doesn’t say that The Devil is the ruler of Hell. what the bible does say is that when we die, we go to Sheol, the Hebrew name for the grave. The bible says that there is no thinking, no knowledge no working, nothing in Sheol. Jesus said that those in Sheol were asleep (in death). It likens death to a sleep. The bible says that everyone who has died will be resurrected on to earth, after all the wicked have been destroyed. It says that 144,000 people who worship God whole souled will go to Heaven to rule over the people on the earth as a government.

After life:- As I explained the bible says one of three things will happen to you when you die, 1 you will go to heaven, to rule over the earth as an immortal spirit creature, 2 you will live on earth in a peaceful paradise, 3. you will die, because you are wicked. The way you will be deemed wicked, is your attitude to God. If you are very sorry and truly repentant for the wrong things you have done, then you will be saved, BUT no-one is the judge of people. Only god will judge people, because he can read people’s hearts. We cannot, so we all just live our life trying to live as closely to gods standards as possible.

The Bible:- We believe that it is inspired by God, and contains his thoughts. We believe in all of it. not just bits. We believe that it helps us to worship God, and tells us how to worship him. No where is the bible does it contradict. I have studied foe bible for all of my life 16 years and I have not found one contradiction. If anyone thinks they know of a contradiction, please say, because I don't know of any.

I think that’s my response to all of the comments in this thread. So there you go

If you have any comments on what I’ve said, please say, I wont be offended. I’ve heard every insult a Jehovah’s Witness can have, believe me.
