I don't, or very rarely, buy a game as a result of reading a review... The games I have brought are a result of playing the games predecessor or having a 'thing' for the developer. I like certain styles of games, not necessarily different genres but different styles... I prefer the UT FPS's to the Deus Ex / Swat 3 FPS's, more action less thinking. I like to keep my thinking for RPG's and RTS's.
But back to the topic at hand. There will no doubt be some of you who feel that Graphics aren't nearly as important as Gameplay, others who feel the opposite and a select few who're right in the middle or on the fence, as it were. But doesn't it matter... I don't think either is more important. Okay so without Graphics Shenmue wouldn't be the same, but without Gameplay Conker's BFD wouldn't be Conker's BFD!
Games aren't about graphics or gameplay... sure they are attributes the game has but they aren't the purpose of the game. Who is to say that one game is better than another... there is no official company that rates games on how fun they are... they can't decide that... they can't decide which genre's are the best... I mean, I love Mario, at 17 years-old that might come as a shock to you but I don't care... he 'makes-a' me laugh. On the other hand FM hates Mario, but Mario isn't good or bad because of one persons opinion.... Ant thinks RPG's are "dull, dull and... dull!" But Grix might like them... So because Grix likes RPG's does that make them good?! No! Because Ant hates them does that make them bad?! No!
To get to the point, games aren't about Graphics or Gameplay... they're not about which genre they fall into and they're not about how long they last or who they're made by...
Games are about one thing and one thing only... just a 3 letter word...
FUN!
Having fun when you're playing a game is the most important thing ever... Make sure you make the right decision when buying a game or console... it's the fun that counts NOT OTHER PEOPLES opinions or preferances!
You wan't to buy a game? You buy it! Don't let others persuade or desuade you...!
Have fun... it's what gaming is ALL about!

My opinion of most PS2 games are very different... I like RRV and don't think much of ZOE, but hey, it's just an opinion!
F1 2001 is amazing, I would give the game at least 95% at first glance.. the only thing wrong with it is the 'Michael Schumacher' said in the same tone all the way through...
But for me, the game is fun and it makes my COMET trip with 'the lads' what it is!

Would you like to give us an idea. Or is better we don't know?
It is only a non experianced gamer that buys the game for it's graphics!

You obviously have no idea how long that would take.
I.E. Ridge 5 is fun, for the first couple of hours. Then it just gets repetetive and becomes crap. This is a problem only faced by Ridge 5, though. If you look at Crazy Taxi, it can't get more repetetive, but it's still a class act game even after at least 30 hours.
Maybe there is a lot of skill in making a good game, but I reckon there's luck involved as well.
When the PS2 gets the hard drive we'll be able to download free demos and try before we buy. far better than reading reviews because everyone's got their own opinion about each game.
Reviews never really have enough influence on me to change my mind, once I have a Nintendo or RARE game in my sight I don't let anything get in my way.
In gaming, personal opinions count a lot for what you are going to buy, some people actually like the Who Wants to be a Millionaire genre games, some people like the slow puzzle games, and then there is me, the I will try any game once style gamer!
Fun? Games have to fun to have any sort of success, no game has ever been counted as a classic because the graphics are good, or the gameplay is great, this games need an added ingrediants, these games need 'fun'.
How many times have I gone back to Turok2 just to use the cerebal bore on a stupid dinosaur, well its more than ten times now, and that has got to be stupid, but no, because I knew when I brought the game it was going to be a gore fest and a heavy gun game, so I wanted the game simply to play with the ammo rounds and exploding arrows. Its simple, gaming has to be fun, from the moment you buy the game and run or walk it home, you are hoping for a long great fun game.
Ten years ago I wouldn't have thought I would still be enjoying the games I played back then today, in ten years time I can see myself playing only a select few of the few previous years releases, these games that we come back to and remember can be only picked out by us above the others because they are pure fun. It doesn't matter if the game is from the Mega Drive, NES, Playstation or Nintendo 64, it will still be fun when we go back to play it in ten years time from now, and as long as the fun still remains in the future of gaming, then we will continue to play games for a very long time.
Thanks
