I don't, or very rarely, buy a game as a result of reading a review... The games I have brought are a result of playing the games predecessor or having a 'thing' for the developer. I like certain styles of games, not necessarily different genres but different styles... I prefer the UT FPS's to the Deus Ex / Swat 3 FPS's, more action less thinking. I like to keep my thinking for RPG's and RTS's.
But back to the topic at hand. There will no doubt be some of you who feel that Graphics aren't nearly as important as Gameplay, others who feel the opposite and a select few who're right in the middle or on the fence, as it were. But doesn't it matter... I don't think either is more important. Okay so without Graphics Shenmue wouldn't be the same, but without Gameplay Conker's BFD wouldn't be Conker's BFD!
Games aren't about graphics or gameplay... sure they are attributes the game has but they aren't the purpose of the game. Who is to say that one game is better than another... there is no official company that rates games on how fun they are... they can't decide that... they can't decide which genre's are the best... I mean, I love Mario, at 17 years-old that might come as a shock to you but I don't care... he 'makes-a' me laugh. On the other hand FM hates Mario, but Mario isn't good or bad because of one persons opinion.... Ant thinks RPG's are "dull, dull and... dull!" But Grix might like them... So because Grix likes RPG's does that make them good?! No! Because Ant hates them does that make them bad?! No!
To get to the point, games aren't about Graphics or Gameplay... they're not about which genre they fall into and they're not about how long they last or who they're made by...
Games are about one thing and one thing only... just a 3 letter word...
FUN!
Having fun when you're playing a game is the most important thing ever... Make sure you make the right decision when buying a game or console... it's the fun that counts NOT OTHER PEOPLES opinions or preferances!
You wan't to buy a game? You buy it! Don't let others persuade or desuade you...!
Have fun... it's what gaming is ALL about!

Perhaps a blue one?!
I doubt anything will beat the PS2 in the UK this christmas, except maybe a GBA w/ Pokémon deal. Nintendo have GOT to exploit the power of Pokémon in times of need!
"On/l gaming won't really take off until Ethernet or *DSL is more widely available."

Maybe so, but Sony are going to need something to combat the release of the Gamecube and X-Box, and if they need to, they'll rush the servers and manufacturers... I'm not 100% sure of the UK release date for the PS2 MODEM and HDD, but it'll need to be sooner rather than later, but with it only just announced at E3 I doubt it will be here any sooner than the Gamecube.
"With PD, you spend £40(+) for half a game. Disgusting."

Yes, but with the Exp. Pak you'll be able to play about 15 N64 games where otherwise you wouldn't...
With the PS2 Modem you won't get to play any on-line games because the chances of Playstation ever publishing one are slim to none!
Okay, so they might get a couple out, but there is no way that the developers will be able to provide the same quality gameplay they would have if they didn't have to worry about on-line gaming. One will suffer... I think it'll be the gameplay.
You've also got to think how many games will use the modem. Look at the Dreamcast. On/l gaming won't really take off until Ethernet or *DSL is more widely available.
"Sony have promised there will be two versions of games released, one for with and one for without a modem."

Have they now?!...
We'll firstly that seems like a terrible marketing plan.... they'll never be able to predict the right supply and demand figures and the market could change at any moment...
Secondly it seems stupid as they'll have to copy more games and if there's no difference in price people will go for the 'on-line' version just in case...
Sony will have shot themselves in the foot if this goes through!
Then, you spend £40 on the online version, or you spend £40 for the offline version.
With PD, you spend £40(+) for half a game. Disgusting.
Sony have promised there will be two versions of games released, one for with and one for without a modem.
Also, the Ex. Pk. means people without it can only play half the game. Worse, they can't complete it. The Ex. Pk. makes the N64 more powerful, the modem/HDD wont.
