I'm thinking of subscribing for a month maybe.
Anything new since about March/April? I bet there are about 3 updates too.

Yeah, but you can always scroll up and see what you missed.

I'm sure Blizzard are churning out ideas like this right now - they won't mess it up, it's too important for them - especially if they want to compete with FFXI on the 360...

Ugh, imagine Ironforge with a headset.

Yes, very true.

Although if you have a few fast convos going on in each channel you must miss the odd bit even though it's text-based too.

Although, for the trade channel, they could have preset text macros, so you can select WTB/WTS [item] - same could go for Looking for Group channel too I guess.

"LFG [quest]" = you select that person's name and talk directly to them to arrange a group, simple.

But still, there would need to be a way of tracking all channels simultaneously, like in the PC version.

True, but that would only work for when you want to talk in that channel - if you can only select one channel at a time, you'll never know what's going on in the others - and you can't have all the voice channels blaring down your headset at once!

You could press the black/white button to cycle through the available channels for the area.

Thing is, there are specific chat channels that span over the city/area, then there's party/raid & guild chat too.

Proximity voicing would work for /say, but not for others.

I wouldn't want to communicate using a keyboard - proximity voice all the way.

It would be quite cool because if you tried to communicate with a rival faction, that doesn't speak your language, the game could completely warp what you were saying into something completely incomprehensible. :D

Also you'd probably be able to switch between setups so you had a different set of quickly selectable commands for being in settlements (ore communication based) and another set for when you're out exploring (more combat based).

Might work, although personally I've almost 40+ icons on screen, not to mention the lesser used ones in character, skills, honor, professions etc etc.

Then you get the whole social aspect of the game. I.e. Typing. The 360 qwerty keypad might work, but it looks a little unweidy.

*Shrug* It's surely possible, but the whole HC interface design would have to be utterly perfect. Still Blizzard haven't failed in other areas.

It would still be slightly more fiddly I expect but I would prefer it because I could select things whilst I was still looking at the screen, if I had to select from a load of options mapped to a keyboard I'd have to look at the keyboard to make sure I pressed the correct key (if you see what I mean).
