Do they mean anything? I've just found some really lovely looking cider in the larder with a use-by date in 1998... drinkable?

I'd never choose it over beer but I can drink it quite happily.
Cider is bad enough when it hasnt expired.

Good point, but I don't know what it tasted like originally so can't pass comment on whether it degraded taste-wise.

But what about the fact that apple does go off after time...surely that would have some bad effect after 7 years?
