Do they mean anything? I've just found some really lovely looking cider in the larder with a use-by date in 1998... drinkable?

Cider was my first bad drink experience! Before that, it was the odd sip of mum's wine or something. Cider was the first full-on drinking session I ever had and boy, was it nasty. But it was mixed with other stuff so that's probably why. Still not having it ever again though.
I remember climbing into the bath because it was a comfort, God knows why. Puked in it then fell asleep. Then remember waking up in bed by friend to be told I was hitting her in the head.. and waking up again after an awful dream thinking she was my boyfriend. Drink makes bad dreams. :(
Hangover was dreadful. Never again with the Cider.

Yes

Though, he probably presumed this and therefore left the cider.

Doesn't a lot of alcohol just mature? Like wine gets better... shouldn't other stuff? Older date = vintage right?

My first bad-drunk experience was on beer I think, but it didn't put me off.
