Go and grab yourself a guitar of any description and play the intro to All My Life by the FooFighters. Basically its just a G power chord but if you're rubbish at playing the guitar just play a G note. Listen to the song for the rhythm if you dont know it.

Now for the hard part.

Try singing along to it. Doesnt sound hard but it is. Singing and playing it at the same time is nearly impossible. It makes Dave Grohl even more of a ledgend IMO.

Johnny Greenwood was (and still is) my ultimate guitar idol. Just listen to OK Computer, and to a lesser extent The Bends, it's just fantastic guitar work. Sometimes sloppy hacking is good.

possibly one of their only songs with hacking in.

That's just because it's quick.

Generally it is very melodious and requires very little agression. Plus the use of long notes and the effects pedal, dulls the guitar sound.

it was originally "emotional hardcore" I think.
It's actually their own label.

I find it slightly ironic that a genre that started out as non-conformist has become a pool of endless labels, names and terminology for everything.

A strange way IMHO to class something, beacuse isn't all music in some way supposed to be emotional?

!

Jonny Greenwood has a really aggressive playing style!
his tremelo picking is far from being properly controlled and he's not a very precise player.

watch him play the first solo in Paranoid Android or the intro to Just live.
He plays the 'solo' in My Iron Lung pretty violently as well.

Gah. I still don't know what "emo" is or means or whatever.

Radiohead + hacking?

Just exactly what songs are you talking about.

All theirs that I like to play (plus all their other songs) I can't hear any heavy stuff...

And Sabre Dance by Love Sculpture - I'd be impressed if anyone could play that - actually, i'd be impressed if you could find a tab for it.

Meh.
I taught myself to play Street Spirit (Fade Out) at the correct speed, which I'm quite proud of.
However, i have a tendnecy to snap strings because I can't use my amp, so I play without it and pick the strings a lot harder than I should.

I can't use my amp because the wee bit that goes around the socket for the cable has mysteriously unscrewed and disappeared itself.
That and the fact that I melted the cable inside a bit, so it doesn't work too well.

:-(
