It appears they are not nearly as big as they deserve to be and I am using them as a perfect opportunity to promote a great band that didn't break it big. I think it's ridiculous that I hadn't heard of these guys, yet there is tons and tons of crap on any "chart" in the UK.
Having got and listened to, fully, their second album (With the Tides - 2003), I can tell you that they are brilliant. They're quite mixed and remind me of many bands as well as having a style I can't link to others.
As an example the first song on this album has a drum rhythm I would associate with Drum and Bass or far heavier rock, but instead it merges quite well with a pleasant vibrant style, not too heavy or overly bassy at all. Through out the album, there are some really brilliant and beautiful riffs and arpeggios accompanied by some really pure and provocative singing. The lyrics aren't amazingly good, but they accompany the music well.
I haven't received my order of their first album yet, but it's supposed to be even better. I just can't wait.
So remember the name, South.
Can't think why I never bought the album before...
I think I may go and purchse the both of them now...
> CIW's on now :-) The soaring vocals in the chorus are just sublime.
That's just it. (see mine below)
But it's that eruption of the drum and striking notes, to go with the lyrics and his strong but smooth voice which blew me out of the water the first time I listened to it. And so, ever since then, I pumped the volume right up and let it blow me away with the strong crescendo of it's amazingness.
I like the smooth-ness of his voice and as well as the strong drummer, it was the thing that lured me into loving them from just hearing Colours in Waves.
I listened to it 62 times in 3 days. Beating Karma Police by 32.
:'}
Otherside still tops the charts with approximately 122 listens in 3 days.
I get a tad obssessive about my favorite songs, needless to say...

I love that song. It's one of my absolute faves.
Drum solo intro? Brilliance.
Swathing violin/chord sounds? Magnificent.
Lyrics and voice? So well suited.
Ending? Perfection.
Anything else amazing about it? When it ends, I now Colours in Waves is gonna start. Rivalling it for my favorite.

Certainly is. My favourite B-side and contender for one of my favourite Radiohead songs.
