It appears they are not nearly as big as they deserve to be and I am using them as a perfect opportunity to promote a great band that didn't break it big. I think it's ridiculous that I hadn't heard of these guys, yet there is tons and tons of crap on any "chart" in the UK.
Having got and listened to, fully, their second album (With the Tides - 2003), I can tell you that they are brilliant. They're quite mixed and remind me of many bands as well as having a style I can't link to others.
As an example the first song on this album has a drum rhythm I would associate with Drum and Bass or far heavier rock, but instead it merges quite well with a pleasant vibrant style, not too heavy or overly bassy at all. Through out the album, there are some really brilliant and beautiful riffs and arpeggios accompanied by some really pure and provocative singing. The lyrics aren't amazingly good, but they accompany the music well.
I haven't received my order of their first album yet, but it's supposed to be even better. I just can't wait.
So remember the name, South.

That's an impossible question to answer. Get both cheap off Amazon. If I had to tell you to get one I'd go with From Here On In purely because, at 16 tracks long, you get more for your money :-)
Which is their best?
I might pick it up when I go into town next.

Yup :-) Here On In just came on.
Those two album are the only things that have been in my stereo since I got them. Both are just aural masterpieces.
:D
Now I prefer "What I find" and "Threadbare".

Heh. I sat playing FM for four hours with FHOI & WTT on shuffle repeat. Mmm...
I listened to the whole of With The Tides again today.
