For FFF, Rasta and myself (and hopefully for the rest of you) I have started this topic to enlighten you about the brilliance of a band called South.

It appears they are not nearly as big as they deserve to be and I am using them as a perfect opportunity to promote a great band that didn't break it big. I think it's ridiculous that I hadn't heard of these guys, yet there is tons and tons of crap on any "chart" in the UK.

Having got and listened to, fully, their second album (With the Tides - 2003), I can tell you that they are brilliant. They're quite mixed and remind me of many bands as well as having a style I can't link to others.

As an example the first song on this album has a drum rhythm I would associate with Drum and Bass or far heavier rock, but instead it merges quite well with a pleasant vibrant style, not too heavy or overly bassy at all. Through out the album, there are some really brilliant and beautiful riffs and arpeggios accompanied by some really pure and provocative singing. The lyrics aren't amazingly good, but they accompany the music well.

I haven't received my order of their first album yet, but it's supposed to be even better. I just can't wait.

So remember the name, South.

:-)

I was more:

Friend played me Paint The Silence > bought both album's "blind" > Shocked to find out later that a)they weren't bigger b) both my brothers owned "From Here On In" and both found out about South of their own accord > Spread the South love > Discussed on here > Spread more South love

Thank you, that'll do.

If they're good I'll get the album next time I go into town... if BF2 doesn't distract me :(

Difficult question.

Here On In, Paint The Silence, Loosen Your Hold, Motiveless Crime, Run On Time

I could list more.

I was identical in every way to what you just said.

I just downloaded Colours and Waves.

It really is brilliant, I'm amazed.

They really ought to be bigger.
