Back in the good old days we had Nash, Azul, Memo, gerrid, aoe_slaught, Tribute, FFF and all the gang to keep the fools down and the scum out. Now they (the good regulars) are outnumbered by the idiots that infest this place.
Came to this conclusion after seeing the aforementioned users had many votes against them in that "Forum Enemy" thread.
Against this harsher climate with strict irritating staff and retarded people the sensible and decent users of old are dying out.
'Tis a pity.

Do you think removing the GAD would lose us some of the more useless posters like some people seem to think?
You can talk about improving the posts in here but i'm not sure how, maybe removing the option for newbies to create topics would be a start but then anyone interesting would have to wait however long to be able to create their own topic. Maybe stricter controls on topics created but that would actually require the staffies to do some work or giving notables some power.
I'd quite like a revamp of the notable system, we've got 24 of them now and some would say thats too many, maybe cut the number or come up with a second level but maybe thats geting away from the point.
This place is only as good as the people who come here, so you either get rid of those not worthy or you find some way to get the best out of those who are here.

Wow, and that's just about when it started to go downhill.

Kidding. But there was a golden age, and you were either part of it or you weren't, simple as that.

I think maybe the best thing I can do personally is just push my standard of writing up. Make topics about subjects I'm genuinely interested in, that I'm willing to discuss and I think will be interesting to others. I'm a hypocrite for saying the standard is dropping because I hardly ever make topics these days.

I guess I'd rather sit around and be entertained, but I guess for that to happen I've got to make the effort to entertain everyone too.

I don't want to make out I'm some sort of fantastic interesting person here, but I'm certainly not trying as hard as I should be. If my best isn't entertaining enough then oh well, never mind. Worth a try though.

Personally, I want to welcome people to this place and encourage them to stay.. for someone outside to make the effort to actually register and join the forums to reply to a topic that's been started because they have something to say about it. That's what I'd like to see.

I dunno. If you want to improve this forum, start topics about things you're interested in, simple as that really.

Hmm.. I think it'd be good to really sit down and go through what's making this forum so crap and what we can possibly do to improve it. I completely disagree with some sort of gang bullying to rid us of stupid people, I just think we need to raise the standard again by setting it somehow. So when intelligent people actually come across this place, they won't just take one glance and run, but maybe find the confidence to start a topic and we MAY even end up with a load more interesting people arriving instead of the idiot magnet it appears to be now.

Because at the moment I wouldn't even give this place a second glance, I only stay here because the place means so much to me. Raise the standards.. hm...

I hate to sound so elitist, but I'm getting so bored of how crap this place is.

How would you go about fixing this place then?

There are going to be more than ever idiots coming on now that it's the Easter holidays!

I also remember the good old days, I was probably one of the most hated users on here at one time, but how times have changed :D

The stories thing was eventually taken over by spackers who wrote pages and pages of totally unfunny garbage about idiotic members that nobody cared about. We all came to the decision that they were rubbish and after months of attacks on the enemy lines, we eventually weeded out the tards who wrote them and scared them off the forums.

Pft, so did I. And yeah, you turned up about mid-end of it.

Basically I'd love to collect up a select bunch and go back to that time. Gas off the rest of them and create a nice little super-race. It'd be boring to just have the same old people in there with nobody new ever coming, but at least the forums would be ours, instead of over-run by idiots who have claimed some sort of martial law.

You know, I reckon if they scrapped giving away games for reviews and just had it for topics on the forums, it'd improve a hell of a lot more. That's one of the reasons the quality was sky high.

Brings a tear to my eye. I think that sort of stuff was still happening when I arrived. I do remember contributing to a few forum stories. But then again, I first came here to win Gameaday..

It was more how we treated Sniper that was funny. Imagine Crossbob bashing, but with intelligent people doing it and carefully winding him up.

And of course, the forum stories. Once upon a time there were a few select people on here that got together and wrote massive joint stories. I reckon it could happen again actually.

But there was a Golden age, I've been here since the start and if anyone should know I'm one of them. Two usernames later and this place sucks in comparison.

If you can, imagine about 10-15 intelligent and interesting people with great senses of humour, and Sniper. No stupid "noobie f u" or anything, everybody new to the forum was welcomed and greeted. There was no stupid angsty whiney people mouthing off at anyone, there was no 'look at me! I'm important!' because there were just a bunch of us so there was no need for it. Nobody making weak pathetic jokes all the time, no copularity pontests or whatever because nobody would even bother to think like that.

People made an effort in the topics they were writing, and every day there were topics that you really couldn't choose out of all of them that could easily win gameaday. I even used to get annoyed, because I'd take a good while writing a topic, then Meka or FantasyMeister would come along and write a ten times better one. Gits.

Then? The owner of the site comes on and chats with us. There are great staff members, Mr Ali@specialreserve heads up gameaday. Every single day quality is encouraged, not just by trying to win gameaday, but by the users on here, because the standard of writing, of imagination, was absolutely through the roof. Back when FOG Prime was just the Future of Gaming, and it was the main room.

No rose tinted glasses here, it really was that good. The most annoying thing at the time? The new users that came on just to win gameaday by writing decent topics then vanishing. And yeah, there were idiots, but there wasn't some sort of 'gang bullying' that goes on these days. They were quietly welcomed then just ignored.

The days when pretty much every single user stood out as an individual, instead of merging into one big mess of people.

That's why there was a Golden age, once, one that not many people ever knew. Long before this craphole of a forum here existed.
