One. Million. Pounds.
Later they upped that to a 'whopping' £15 million, but in my opinion that's because they were shamed into it. Then there's the US who offer a 'collossal' £35 million. What really rubs it in though is Jack Straw and George Bush standing there and giving excuses why they can't give more. I really believe the western world has become completely morally bankrupt.
Bush : "Last year 40% of all aid given in the world was given by the US."
Who gives a crap who gave what when, you t***pot, do you really have a clue what the real world is about?? For gods sake, how much money have both nations plowed into that ridiculous war? I don't hear any complaints about budgets when that subject is raised. Not to mention the human loss of life.
It makes you ashamed to be British and affiliated with what is turning out to be an Empire of bullies, ignorant knuckledraggers and yes men. This New Year I'm hoping for a Nuclear Holocaust.
Rant Over. Time for the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
Besides, they weren't poor enough to not host the olympics.

Greece is quite a poor country, actually, it's one of the poorest in the EU, still rich compared to most, but not very.
Nothing.
And I don't mean on a map.

Not the most generous of countries. (Allowing for what countries can afford)
A loss of 1 weeks wages isn't going to kill them (heck, they probably wouldn't even notice it), but it could save hundred or even thousands of people in those countries.

oh i see,
sorry mate, i'm little slow today...
you're right of course, a sporting participant can pay it's players more a week than an entire country can afford to donate to a cause for lost life.. utter madness.
What's good though, is that despite how poor they are, they still manage to rustle up money which would be of great use in their own country, but they're still selfless enough to give it to a country which really needs it.
(And no, that's not contradicting my argument earlier, and if it is, tehn whoops, I didn't mean it, but enough of that anyway.)
It's just, I dunno, wrong that a football club in one nation has more wealth at its disposal than an entire country.

Estonia isn't exactly the pinnacle of world wealth though mate, it's probably fairly proportionate.
