Hello again folks.

Just thought we could have a nice cosy little vote on the best short story from all the SSC entries so far this year.

Yes, it does include anything up until 31st December, but you can vote now if you want. And, no, you can't vote for one of your own stories.

Now, I thought this would be a good little addition to the usual Short Story Comp because everyone can have a vote on this one instead of just the person who won the last one. It might bring up a few surprises (or Meka might win ;-) ).

How about it?

Oh, and someone else can tally up the votes on 31st December, as I may not be able to get online until later in Jan.

Er....

1. You didn't need to quote my whole message
2. It's my vote - I will use it as I wish
3. ? was the ONLY STORY you entered in the 2004 comps so it was the only one I could vote for.

Change my ? mark into track rats I think that was my best one!

One of those Twisted Tales from BBC3 was basically a rip-off of that cake-baking-related story. I was quite amused and slightly outraged. All in good measure.

Never tried to get anything published.
Gonna try and get my book(s) done first, and then all my short ones together in one place.

Meka deserves it.

Anyway, I say again that SR should get their act together and compile the best of these stories in to a book, then release it with the royalties going to charity (with the authors permissions, of course).

Funny you should pick "One Hell of a Battenberg" as your favourite of mine, it's the only one that came from SSC's that's been published... not this version of it, but this had the basics. I think the mask of Markopan itself was dropped from the final version!

Well it would have been. Honest. If it wasn't for the fact that this is only up to the end of December 2004 :)

Can't believe 'A Man Lived, and Then He Died" isn't in there! ;)

This was both surprisingly easy and incredibly hard. I didn't need to read all the stories again because when it came down to it I found I already had favourites. These were the ones that stuck most in my mind. That was the easy bit. The hard part was realising that in most cases there were two or three that had stuck in my mind and the final list is judged somewhat based on how I feel today.. I have not included the writers who either don't post here anymore (that I know of) or struck me as not entirely serious. So I'm sorry if I missed you off :)

Anyway here is my list.

Ashman - A night's tale
Black Glove - Fruitcake
crossbob - ?
Cyclone - Away we drift
EB - Light of the screen
FFF - My wonderful creation
Grix - Herbidie's True Love
Lil Bro - The mask of Mr Markopan
Mattributé - Betrayal :)
Mav - Heirloom
Meka - One hell of a battenberg
Paradox - Spice
pb - Hold on to the love
Rickoss - Shimmer in the water
RoJ - Creatures
Strafio - The story of Jakes' clan
Stryke - Never go back
