OMG it's 4.10am and my animation is still rendering :( i still have to put all my mocies together and add music. Then at 8.20am get up and walk in to uni for a 4 hour lecture in which a very tired me will present my animation.

It's all been going wrong here. My 'copy' of premiere has funked up it won't let me use the mpeg 4 codec that i have to use. Now using virtual dub to put them together but this means no fading transitions :( . One of my renders failed twice which means i have to leave it out.

My presentation is a critical review of my project so far. (so far it's looking shoddy) They are going to rip me apart :( i mean yeah the smoke and the lighting rocks but cause of teh transitions i'm screwed. I was on a first for the project so far now this is going to bring me down to like a 2.1 then i just gotta hope the final version gets me another first.

My brain hurts. I have learnt that 3d animation is too unstable to leave to the night before. Theres a lesson there kidds.

If i get the time tomorrow i will post a link to my animation. It's only 30 seconds and it's for a bbc-i channel Spark. Which i happen to do student stuff for.

Well off to finish it all. Had a rant feel abit better head hurts though.

I assume my 10 mins of research is of some use to you, or at least i hope it is. I have radical ways of getting information that if i told you i would have to kill you, but it's very useful being quick at research when your at uni and need stuff cause you leave some work too late.

Creating a cell shading material is very simple just has a bit of falloff in the deffuse map and no gloss or shinny, and 100% self illumination. thats the basics of it but i am trying to get the cross hatching, i will post the progress tomorrow night on my site and post on here, i probably wont have gotten too much further as i need to read up a bit more on materials.

mine will be a quicker for renders hopefully.

And no i am not german :P

Ink and paint = big pile O' poo

That why i have to work out a new and improved but simple cell shading. in and paint takes forever (not really forever but it's long enough) to render and the tests that i have done render alot quicker so far and look just as good.

The thing is i want cross-hatched effect on my dark areas and so this is taking some time, i have one angle of the hatching done i just havn't worked out the second lines yet but i have got quite far in the hour i have spent on it.

you mean Normal-mapping as in the advance bump-maps? just looking up stuff on it now to understand what it is and how it's used.

cell shading: the ink and paint material that comes with MAX is a cell shaded material and isn't TOO bad at all.

there's a snazzy free plugin for MAYA that looks pretty snazzy but i'm assuming you're sticking to MAX.

hey, if you want another project, write a tutorial about normal-mapping.. and write it in english.
i'll be yer best mate :)

The amount of new little projects you do is inspiring but then it reminds me of a lad in my art class who does finished paintings in one lesson and carries on doing loads of other things, which makes me not want to work.

Go me!

As well as the science thing i am working on i have just decided to try to do a cell shaded piece probably just a still image as i have been doing too much animation lately.

I am going to try to learn and make a good material for the cell shading i have seen examples fo the wort of one i want just not any tuorials or hep on how to achive the effect so i think it is going to be alot of trial and error and error and long renders :(

any ideas on a scene or on how to get a good effect let me know, oh yeah i don't want to use plugins for any of it :)
