It's all been going wrong here. My 'copy' of premiere has funked up it won't let me use the mpeg 4 codec that i have to use. Now using virtual dub to put them together but this means no fading transitions :( . One of my renders failed twice which means i have to leave it out.
My presentation is a critical review of my project so far. (so far it's looking shoddy) They are going to rip me apart :( i mean yeah the smoke and the lighting rocks but cause of teh transitions i'm screwed. I was on a first for the project so far now this is going to bring me down to like a 2.1 then i just gotta hope the final version gets me another first.
My brain hurts. I have learnt that 3d animation is too unstable to leave to the night before. Theres a lesson there kidds.
If i get the time tomorrow i will post a link to my animation. It's only 30 seconds and it's for a bbc-i channel Spark. Which i happen to do student stuff for.
Well off to finish it all. Had a rant feel abit better head hurts though.

Creating a cell shading material is very simple just has a bit of falloff in the deffuse map and no gloss or shinny, and 100% self illumination. thats the basics of it but i am trying to get the cross hatching, i will post the progress tomorrow night on my site and post on here, i probably wont have gotten too much further as i need to read up a bit more on materials.
mine will be a quicker for renders hopefully.
And no i am not german :P
what are you using for the cel-shading??
i love that effect so if you've found a better way of doing it i'd like to see it mate!
A good step by step tutorial for a character model.

i haven't tried either of these tutorials yet but mite give them a go some time as from the few pages i read it was relitivly well written.
hope this helps you
That why i have to work out a new and improved but simple cell shading. in and paint takes forever (not really forever but it's long enough) to render and the tests that i have done render alot quicker so far and look just as good.
The thing is i want cross-hatched effect on my dark areas and so this is taking some time, i have one angle of the hatching done i just havn't worked out the second lines yet but i have got quite far in the hour i have spent on it.
you mean Normal-mapping as in the advance bump-maps? just looking up stuff on it now to understand what it is and how it's used.
there's a snazzy free plugin for MAYA that looks pretty snazzy but i'm assuming you're sticking to MAX.
hey, if you want another project, write a tutorial about normal-mapping.. and write it in english.
i'll be yer best mate :)
Go me!
I am going to try to learn and make a good material for the cell shading i have seen examples fo the wort of one i want just not any tuorials or hep on how to achive the effect so i think it is going to be alot of trial and error and error and long renders :(
any ideas on a scene or on how to get a good effect let me know, oh yeah i don't want to use plugins for any of it :)
