Yes, they're at it again. The Daily Mail have taken their crusade against all things they don't understand by condemning the decision to put Japanese Manga in schools.

The books are vetted by the School's councils, but the Mail once again shows their ignorance of everything by not undertanding the difference between comic books and Japanese Manga.

Only a fool would suggest that reading an adaption of Spirited Away (to give a well known example) would lead to 'harder' material which is often read by adults in Japan. It would be like suggesting children shouldn't read books, in case it gets them involved in horror or porn based reading material, or not watching Bambi on video, because it will eventually lead the kids to something by Ron Jeremy.

Daily Mail, well done, you've done it again...

I bought Akira and enjoyed it to a point, until (if I remember rightly) it all went distinctly odd in a stadium towards the end?

And yeah, my only real exposure to manga fans have been Belldandy and somebody else who keeps going on about it here - but they also talk constantly about watching "Extreme Asia" horror films, which hardly helps the image I have of manga fans.
I'm sure people can offer loads of titles that don't involve demonsexgrope finales but I don't really care.

Still quite enjoy Akira, but it does get odd. ;)

I know exactly what you mean. Half the time it's like they wear a "I watch Foreign!! films me" badge, and demand respect.

Mm, it strikes me that the vast majority of the Japanese animation is not much more than Dogtanian and the Three Muskahound-type moralising with better animation and more realistic violence. Perfectly fine for kids, and diverting enough for anyone above the age of 19. If it happens to be on the TV at the time. (and now we can cue a fanboy raging at us for not knowing the difference between manga and anime...)

That said, I'd rather read Manga than the Daily Mail. I'd rather read Mein Kampf than the Daily Mail. To borrow a phrase, the Mail is journalism by people who can't write, for people who can't read.

So I take it video games are no longer corrupting the "kids" and making them stalk each other in badly scripted homage to Manhunt?

Is it this week or next week we blame DH Lawrence and demand banning this sick filth and have nice pyres in the street?

Nah, DH Lawrence is in the New Year. We have the March for Decent Citizens Against Anne Franks Diary first of all. And then it's the "Chaucer is for Deviants" campaign...

Can we chase a police van down the road, banging on the sides and shouting "Scuuuuuuuuuum" as we drag our frightened and confused children with us?

I demand to be outraged by a story of Maxine Carr not paying penance for not doing very much at all.
Our taxes pay for that Myra Hindley2!!!!

Well, all frightened and confused kids are currently manning the Ardoyne in Belfast. But I'm sure we can spare a couple.

Hang on; does that mean that our taxes are paying for tabloids to generate scare stories that demonise anorexic women in abusive relationships? Call me picky, but it my day they used to demonise the people who'd actually carried out the killings...

But she was out kissing another man the evening that Huntley did the killings (explained in graphic detail to be outraged properly on pages 2,3,4,5 and middle-spread)!!!
She's a whorecow!!!!

The ideal Daily Mail story about Maxine Carr would basically be exactly as it is now, but with nude shots of Maxine Carr in a 69 clinch with a Myra Hindley lookalike. Oh, and shots of Holly and Jessica wearing bikini's so we can see what pert, ripe young fillies that the evil woman ('s boyfriend) has robbed us of drooling over.

I really, really hate the Daily Mail...
