Yes, they're at it again. The Daily Mail have taken their crusade against all things they don't understand by condemning the decision to put Japanese Manga in schools.

The books are vetted by the School's councils, but the Mail once again shows their ignorance of everything by not undertanding the difference between comic books and Japanese Manga.

Only a fool would suggest that reading an adaption of Spirited Away (to give a well known example) would lead to 'harder' material which is often read by adults in Japan. It would be like suggesting children shouldn't read books, in case it gets them involved in horror or porn based reading material, or not watching Bambi on video, because it will eventually lead the kids to something by Ron Jeremy.

Daily Mail, well done, you've done it again...

Ha. I love these kinds of things, where "journalists" get completely out of their depth talking about things they obviously have no clue about, and that seems to happen quite a bit with anime, Manga and also video games as we well know. All Manga is evil!!!123. Ha.

It doesn't take a genuis to do a small bit of research into the world of Manga, and then to discover that there are plenty of family-friendly titles to be the Ying to the violent sordid titles' Yang. But, it seems the ever reliable Mail can conduct such journalism by ignoring the facts and fanning the flames of hatred and moral outrage by implying that kids are going to be exposed to this sick filth.

The main thing about people's dislike or even mistrust of anime and Manga all comes about mainly from cultural misunderstandings really, that and people's fear of the unknown. Anime and Magna are Japanese, an alien culture to those of us outside it; their world looks interesting to the outside world, with people fascinated with their culture of high-tech living mixed with ancient traditions, moral codes, strict work ethic etc etc, but anime and manga convey even weirder cultural ideologies; schoolgirls, panties, rape, and many other strange fetishes and perversions are part and parcel of adult anime and manga, things that make something like Viz magazine look tame and family friendly, and to quote Winston out of the Ghostbusters, "S£*t that'll turn you white". But to think that every Manga comic or anime film/show is vile and filled with evil material is just wrong, it's like thinking that every film to roll out of the Hollywood muuuuh machine is filled with explict sex and gore, which isn't the case as we all know.

There are plenty of good wholesome Manga comics to read and there are some sick ones. I'm pretty sure that anything allowed into schools are the harmless ones, but will letting them read some innocent Manga lead to to seek out more adult orientated Manga? No. But, if some pupils do decide to read some more adult Manga, then it's their own choice, nobody will be forcing them, and it certainly won't be the fault of the Manga industry.

Daily Mail researching into a subject and actually getting facts before going off on one of their right-on rants? Will never happen. Let them live in the ignorance they're obviously very happy with it.

Don’t be so sure. What about Disney’s latest offering? It’s about a baby dear that loses it’s mother and so grows up without a female role model. Soon after the death the youngster turns to drugs and prostitution to support herself. Coming soon, “Bangbi”

They always bring up groups like these - I remember when they whined about Blackadder being put on the A-Level English course. IT'S NOT A CLASSIC (well, it is, but you know) LIKE SASSOON OR OWEN!!! We read the script (the script, so that was words, consequently possibly slightly more acceptable than TV - OH LOOK! Charlotte Church is wearing red underwear!!!!111 OMG!)

So, the fact that I studied poems from about 30 different writers, books, art and other forms of, erm, media of WW1, meant that Blackadder was an evil. We used it to see how the war was/has been viewed. But that didn't matter, because it wasn't written by Owen, Brookes, or Sassoon. Who we studied to death anyway.

Like WS said, can we not lead a 'crusade' on the Mail?!

Trouble is, this ignorance actually influences people.

Thing about the Mail is it's run by vey clever people who don't neccessarily believe a word of what they write, but do it to get the sales. Which they do. It's cynical and highly damaging, but profitable. Bas*ards.

Best thing was them screming about MPs wages (another debate) - what does the editor of the Mail get I wonder?

I ranted on for about 10 minutes about the Daily Mail in class today. Then my teacher joined me, as did a few others, and no work was done. Which was nice.

I generally like the Daily Mail.

In my opinion, our country is losing it's character. We dont need any of that Manga crap here. If people want to read it, fine, but British books, novels, language and history should be taught. If some kid has it to read at lunch, fine. But trying to include it in the curriculum is wrong...Especially when some schools don't allow Bibles, or literary past-time books.

I've been reading manga for 4 years now, and only started raping people a few months ago.
It didn't affect me all that much.

PLEASE, explain and define this. Please. I'd love someone to do this for once.

We dont need any

Japan doesn't need any English language then. WOOPS! It's happened already. Half the world didn't need British rule...but wait, that was ALL GOOD, no?

If people want to read it, fine, but British

They are. But surprisingly, people in other countries are JUST AS IMPORTANT!!! Shock revelation, but humans are human are human. I've learnt all about Britain etc- in fact, I'd say I know more about British history than many who proclaim to 'love' this country blindly, simply because it's where they live - and no, I'm not anti-British. I just detest blind patriotism, from any nationality.

If some kid has

It's not. It's in a library. Read first.

I've studied the Bible in RS. SURPRISED? We also looked at the Torah and Ko'ran. Etc. My God, I'm dirty and foreign.

Aha.
