Vester got me to create a new shortcut in the FAD folder the link was to the icon I think. he updated it in his help section I believe as it seems to be a common problem he said. so now i just click on that and it'll bring it up, however clicking it without anything running will just leave me with the icon and most of the menu blanked out so I have to run Think as well.
I managed to get a 2nd job back, after awhile of saving, closing and restarting the program. I wont put a second one on the other computer, but it seems odd that it's 0.2 faster and yet I have a 8 CPU rating higher :)
This is getting annoying the guy did it again, huge gap, a 16 day job ended giving them another 288,624 git :D
Hyper-Threading is built into P4s now. What it is, fundamentally is part of a second core. So it is kind of like having two processors. This means you can have two active threads at once. A thread is a program actually running, sending instructions and data into the processor. With an older Intel chip, or with an Athlon, you only ever have one thread active at a time. With a P4 you can have two active, but it isn't a true dual processor system because not all of a second processor is there. The FPU (floating point unit) is shared between the two logic units. FAD uses the FPU mostly, so that's why running two instances scores lower than just one instance, because they have to share the FPU. Don't try to run more than one instance of FAD on a Celeron, they don't have Hyper-Threading, so won't benefit and it will actually introduce some overheads, resulting in a lower CPU rating.
Dual-core, that is two full processors on the one chip, will be out next year. Of course that really is basically a dual-processor system, albeit with only one actual chip, because all the logic is on the same piece of silicon.
I'm still somewhat baffled by what was happening with the system tray icon. What did Vester get you to do?

This one is P2.4 the other computer is PC2.6, Vester said if I have a hyperthreaded Intel P4 and the number of Thinks to run was on auto, then it would do two jobs at once, which is better.
Unfortunately I've just deleted the 2nd one (for some reason there was a 3rd and 4th because of the problems I've been having getting the system tray icon to appear) so I'll have to try and figure out how to get it back or bug Vester again. Perhaps I should get the other computer on 2 aswell, though it's a celeron and I have no idea what hyperthreading is :)

The latest version of FAD automatically generates jobs for itself using previous molecules (the same for all queries) and different queries.
FMA: What is the processor you have? I tried running two instances of THINK once - got 200 on both. Except the seconds counter only moved at half speed.
I might try knocking up a team page later. In the mean time, with it being a Thursday night, I'm off out.

got fed up of waiting and bugged someone on the FAD forum, though for some reason the CPU rating is 120 while the 2 jobs on their own were doing 90 each, where's the other 60 gone?
One reason for my slow CPU rating is for some reason it's doing two jobs at once. I'm assuming that's a bad thing for getting more points? How do I get it to stop and just focus on one at a time?
I was bored last night and did a little surfing, that Team Ninja I mentioned before, they're a new team and seem to be doing many projects at once including FAD. Though of few of them did say it was more worthwhile work instead of looking for aliens but I could tell they werent about to give up on all the other projects. They have some serious players in there that have already shot up the list.
Is there anyway other than the old thread that you can try and encourage more SR users onto it. Maybe a small (even one page is fine) website, I would feel more inclined to carry on if i felt more like part of a team, my contribution noted and recognised (Well done Notorious Biggles in completing 1000 jobs etc) and quick notes on what's happening with the current projects and what's happening next, you know something for potential new members to look over at, which I think is better than sending them off to download the software and put in a team number and leave it at that. Not the slightest bit encouraging. Sorry just throwing ideas into the field as we're in need of more members. Idlewild out so soon, been a week now.
edit:- a team image on the stats page would be nice too.

Not quite. Remember, not all jobs take the same length of time to complete. The current 1bmm-Q1 jobs run fast, I've had one complete in 17 minutes. Others such as the 1hyv-Q3 jobs can take 10 days. Also, the number of hits varies from job to job and query to query. Hits have no relevance in the points.
You may well have done the same number of jobs as Urkie, but if he has a faster computer, then it will take you longer to do as many as him. He'll have a higher CPU rating * less time. The points are calculated on average CPU rating * hours. 10 hours at a rating of 200 gives 2,000 points, or 16,000 GFLOPS.
I'll have a look into the loader problem. Maybe others have had a similar issue. In the mean time I'll just build up a cache of jobs to make a big dump. Should manage around 180,000 GFLOPS worth when I upload.
