It's Mr Pants = mmmm mediocracy
It's been, what, four years since they released a game worth playing?

Uh uh! That's why they've got content unsuitable for kids.
Goldeneye is so pick up and play that a 3 year old can give it a go.
10 year olds can give it a good go and beat it on Agent atleast, but the harder settings give a suitable challenge and depth to more mature gamers.
So it's halfway between.

Realism smealism.
What's that got to do with adultness?!?
Basically, a kid would need exceptional patience to get anything out of Metroid. It takes and adult to appreciate the goodness in such a game.
Incidently, the most notorious games are the ones that capture both scenes. The afore mentioned Goldeneye was a huge hit among all gamers alike. Hardcore Goldeneye fans loved Perfect Dark, but most casual gamers found PD relatively inaccessable.
Metroid Prime: Echoes has you stalking an empty series of tunnels with old members of a strike force hung up from the ceiling.
The game is, at times, terrifying! You are given this total feeling of loneliness, you have no friends, no allies. Everyone is dead. You can read their desperate struggle for survival via scanning dead troops.
The game is complex, has a large level of depth and in no way shape of form can be defined as childrens title.
It is Nintendo's premier adult franchise and always will be.

Goldeneye had a high level of relaism and PD was rated mature because of it's realistic deaths (Turok only got a 15 because it was mainly against Dinosaurs/creatures and the gore was OTT).
Metroid Prime doesn't appear to contain a high level of realism.
Ubi-soft are pushing realism at the moment with PoP2 going after a more adult feel and Pandora Tomorrow making many americans upset with the likelyhood of an 'M' rating. After Dumbing down GR2 and removing the blood this is a welcome change.
Mabye it's just me but as a kid I was playing Wolfenstein and Doom, the thought of a farming simulation wouldn't have interested me at all.
That's why Perfect Dark was an adult title and I'd say Metroid Prime is but I'd say Goldeneye and Timesplitters are somewhere in between...
I'd say a level of realism, inclusion of gore and the sort of things that gets a game a 16+ rating. This combined with the title actually being next-gen and good.
Resi 4 is a prime example.
I fail to see the MP's as Adult titles.
Temporary exclusivity is a weak point, re-releasing thr Resident Evils was a desperate attempt to grasp the adult market. It's an apalling mess.
Still at least they have franchises to fall back on. A few more adult franchises wouldn't hurt.
Still Rare only managed to fling out 3 adult titles but the success of those really hasn't made much of an impact on Nintendo, and this time there's no enthusiastic Acclaim or THQ to bail them out.

Well for starters there is Namco developing the Starfox and Donkey Kong games in place of RARE. Also Nintendo's new division was set up on the back of RARE's departure.
So we have Konga 1,2,3, Jungle Beat, Starfox Armada.
Adult software we have Silicon Knights' Eternal Darkness and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Retro Studio's: Metroid prime 1 and 2.
Capcom's Resident Evil 0, Product Number 03, Capcom were also given the Mickey Mouse license previously held by RARE. Also the temporary exclusivity of Viewtiful Joe and Resident Evil 4.
N-Space's Geist is coming soon
as is Kuju's Advance Wars.
Die Hard Vendetta was a temporary exclusive title.
NSTC was expanded a little, they developed 1080.
As I say, it has taken Nintendo ages to develop a decent level of exclusive adult software. Retro are better than RARE at the moment. I just wish they were bigger.
Retro have also released more games on the Gamecube than RARE have on the X-box so far.
