This is just my opinion but I don't think they should show it. It's upsetting to watch and hear and it will have no effect on smokers
what's your opinion?
The majority of people out there are
> non smokers
You're kidding, right?
"Smoking Will Kill You"
That was alright, because they'd already heard that one a billion times, and it was their life to do what with.
The new ones?
"Smoking may Kill your baby"
"Smoking may cause kidney failure in later life"
I think those are some examples, but the point is, they don't brush these ones off quite so easily. :-)
And as for the adverts? Make them hardcore nasty. I want lungs
blackened, I want yellowing cancerous cells crawling over petri
dishes, I want a skullbong, I want a small child sobbing because his
parents smoked and died in front of him, asthmatically wheezing their
last breath as little Timmy held up a tin of beans for them to open
with a sad look on his face.
That wouldn't be the answer. The majority of people out there are non smokers and if you started putting images like that on the TV it could have a very negative effect on people who don't even smoke. As for the smokers, will that deter the majority of them? Probably not so net effect, nothing.

because loads of angsty rebellious young teens with smoke precisely
because of that.
I think the whole "smoking is cool" ethos was very much a part of the 80s and early 90's and has a lesser "cool" tag on it since the late 90s to today. Still, there are a few but I think this could be combatted by telling kids what smoking will do to them in schools, I don't think I was ever told half of the stuff that I know about smoking in school, all I was told was "smoking kills you" and that was that. I'm not saying it would stop the problem, it wouldn't but it might lessen it.
And the notices on the packets have no effect at all on people, waste of money if I may say.

glad to hear it mate.
i don't wanna have to have a heart attack to give me insentive though y'know?
almost quit though, the rare times i DO have one now i find it gross and get annoyed at myself.. so nearly there!
I never did get why they got attractive 20-somethings to dance about smoking.
They should have got the ugliest, smelliest people from council estates stuffing chips in their face and lighting up.

That made me laugh. The first thing that did today, thank you.

Somebody should consult an advertising agency on how to deter.
Show happy smiling people, hugging and reading Jilly Cooper novels to each other, show dads hugging sons in parks and slo-mo football kickabouts between families.
Show sickeningly happy couples laughing at a picnic.
